» pink101 - Has Anyone Noticed

.
I wonder, has anyone noticed how we have some leaders that seem to believe in picking a fight in order to gather a crowd of supporters?
.
Remember when you were in middle school--7th, 8th, 9th grades--and one of your classmates would pick a fight do be fought after school? A group of supporters for each side would gather.
.
I think that is the method of politicking Bush and the Clintons use to gather support for their side.
.
Has anyone else noticed that?
.
I wonder it that has something to do with the sporting events that have so much of our attention.

» pink101 - Seems To Say

.
Obama seems to be saying that he would like the discussions regarding this presidential event to be centered around the important issues of our time rather than around trivia.
.
In other words, it seems he wants to frame the debate on the enduring issues of our society.
.
And, it seems his opponents want to frame the debate on who is the most aggressive fighter.
.
That is what I am thinking about in this thread.

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - The concept

The concept of picking a fight to generate publicity is something that goes way back. Julius Caesar comes to mind as someone who did that very thing militarily and politically in order to advance his standing in the Roman world.

Getting to contemporary politics...Bill Clinton was a MASTER at that. So was Newt Gingrich, but Clinton did it better. It's no surprise that you're seeing this in the Democratic primary contests.

Nor is it a surprise the way G.W. Bush carries out his activities as president.
.
But, what do you think of it as a way of rallying the people?
.
I'm sure it sells advertising time in the media.
