» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - How you got this way

In response to Discussion Forum Issues posted by pink101:

My guess is that you were (appropriately) turned off by and repelled by the old-timey, pulpit-pounding, and often shallow and sometimes hypocritical EXTREMISM of the fundamentalist movement. So am I.

What I've been able to appreciate over the years is that, while people are flawed, Jesus isn't. And while certain corners of the fundamentalist movement are shallow, hypocritical, prideful and/or hateful, that doesn't typify or embody the core message and mission of Jesus Christ.

A lot of people recoil at the abuses, problems, etc. of the church - and then they reject (or, in your case, redefine) Christianity itself because of it. I don't think that's a necessary or even a logical approach.

My background church was also turned off and repelled by that fanaticism. No, you're wrong. My church had a strong tradition of being open minded--had to as we were deep and cold water Baptists.
.
And, I see much of what passed off as Fundamentalism in the level headed preaching of today. You, for example, are a Fundamentalist by some other name. I'm almost certain you can list the Fundamentals.
.
It is more related to the manipulatory ways used by the leadership that keep the members of the congregation from asking the wrong questions and, thusly, straying from the straight an narrow.
.
It might work with horses; but, when blinders are put on human beings, they will, sooner or later, want to know why. And, when people ask questions, answers have a way of coming to the surface.

Yep. What's the definition of insanity again? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Spring has finally arrived - sorta. I've got lots of winter cleanup and garden preparation to do. I'll drop in now and then - just to stir things up a bit. happy

We are beginning to see the first real signs of Spring with sprouts of hyacinths and daffodils breaking through winter's long blanket of sleep.
.
And, I notice that some trees are beginning to turn their tops to shades of orange and yellow from that somber gray we have come to know. And, the birds are chasing each other in the bushes down by the lake. That's a sure sign there's soon to be new babies.
.
It won't be long before we'll be treated to life bursting its seams.

COLD torrential rain and high winds here today. Glad I uncovered my garden plants yesterday between showers. Last year's dead debris was suffocating their new shoots. None of my early spring flowers have come up. I was so looking forward to seeing color again. We've had such a cold sunless spring so far. I did get all my deck furniture back out of storage last week, but haven't been able to enjoy it since. Snow is predicted for this Sunday here. Big sigh.sad What's all this about global warming?

I grow cacti house plants just to remind myself that there really are places that are warm. Three months of summer here just isn't enough! The older I get, the more attractive Arizona sounds to me. happy

I guess I'm one of those lurking in the shadows, lol. I don't engage in discussion as much as I used to because I either don't really have much say in any of the current topics here or I've said all I can. I do still come here every now and then.

We had those cold rains yesterday as well.
.
And the forecast was for worse today; but, instead, we got a beautiful day so far. Temps well into the 60s and sunny most of the time.
.
Even so, we have tornado warnings for the entire strand of counties across the southern border of our state until 9 p.m..
.
I can't complain. The weather's like life. I enjoy it no matter what it is. I just wish I had a log cabin up on some northern river when the weather is miserably cold. I would sit in front of a nice cozy fireplace and read and listen to the crackle of the fire and the rumble of the thunders as the rain splashes down on the windows.
