For my own part, I've had to manage my time in such a way that I can't take an active part in all the discussion threads. I'm just involved in too many things to do so. Were I to engage in all the threads, this could become a full-time job.
That said, I think there's value in Internet discussion boards, and I would hope that those here will feel the freedom to continue to participate - and will see the value in doing so. On that point (value), what would help is if others joined in.
I can tell you that these discussion threads get hundreds of views each month - I have the stats to prove that. And those aren't just views from the same 4-5 active participants. I'm talking unique visits.
With this in mind, there are some debates I'm actively engaged in - in which I know I have little hope of persuading those I'm directly debating. Why do I do it then? Because I know there's a bigger audience.
For example...the thread on Christianity and paganism, though Migisi has apparently dropped out and it seems Pink might be as well, I am making my points primarily to the larger audience that IS reading that thread.
Bottom line...
To those lurking in the shadows, come in and play. We need more participation.
To those actively engaged...thank you and keep it up.

Migisi has ether found her self too involved in other issues, is ill, or has given up running in circles over the same arguments.

Yup. Migisi seems to have left. Paper Turtle has already left. Wendell of course left. While there are a handful of others who occasionally swing by briefly, it appears it's down to you and me.
