Pink, interesting. I can honestly say that I am aware of NO Nazis or Nazi sympathizers in my congregation. I am quite confident that they would have no desire to get involved in Sligo Baptist Church. They would not feel very comfortable there.

Glad to hear that.
.
Interesting that California has more hate groups than any other state.
.
But, maybe we could expect that.

Don't think there are any around here, but we do have the odd Neo Nazi. My sister worked with one and all he ever did was go on about how Hitler had the "right idea" and boast about how he and his family get the odd death threat.

I think there's a KKK group in my town, though.

I had thought that state populations had something to do with the number of hate groups. I figured more people, more hate. But it doesn't seem to work that way. Appears to be the opposite (see states below in bold).
.
Note that New York has approx. 9 mil more people than Michigan, yet both harbor the same number of hate groups.
.
Compare New York and Florida - Florida having around 1 mil fewer people than New York, but 23 more hate groups.
.
And look at S. Carolina! Yikes!
.
California's population is 36,457,549 -- with 80 hate groups
Texas' pop 23,507,783 -- 67 (a hefty # for the pop!)
New York's pop 19,306,183 -- 26
Florida's pop 18,089,888 -- 49 (Yow!)
Illinois pop 12,831,970 -- 23
Ohio's pop 11,478,006 -- 28
Michigan's pop 10,095,643 -- 26
Georgia's pop 9,363,941 -- 42
New Jersey pop 8,724,560 -- 34
Tennessee pop 6,038,803 -- 38
S. Carolina pop 4,321,249 -- 45

.
We don't know how big these hate groups are in each state. A group could be as small as 3 people -- or one family - calling themselves XXX or KKK. Nonetheless, that's 3 too many IMO.
.
Check out your state's demographics here: http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/...

Just found out, Pink, that the former head of the Ohio KKK lives about 5 minutes down the road from our house. Was talking to some of my church members about it. And there is definitely a supremacist 'underground' of sorts in our area. I suspect it's not very big, but it's there.

Apparently it's reasonable to raise it about our area. I was a little taken aback by your original question, though, because I personally would have NO part in a church that was racist. Thus, if I had detected the presence of "hate groups" (of any kind) in my congregation, I never would've accepted the pastorate.

Many of these hate groups are 'underground' types - not operating in the open. How could you really know if they were members of your church?

Sorry to have not answered this sooner. There are no doubt lots of secrets in the lives of Sligo Baptist Church's congregants that I don't know about. But...I have a pretty good read on the general heart of the people, and none of them would (in my view) be comfortable in such a hate group. Besides, they would've run me off long before now, after my sermons on love and the equal value before God that both genders and all races share.
