But, we sure cannot expect Joe Sixpack to give a hoot when his efforts are more to just keep his head above water.

What we need is a massive rethinking about home financing in the American economic system--one in which the government finances home mortgages.

House discusses $15 billion mortgage bailout
Committee hears proposal to buy up to 1 million loans in next five years

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23359239/
updated 5:50 p.m. CT, Tues., Feb. 26, 2008
.
"WASHINGTON - Investors could sell up to $15 billion of troubled mortgages to the government under a plan key House members are discussing to bolster the U.S. housing market.
.
"The tentative plan would allow the government to purchase up to 1 million mortgages over five years in an effort to help struggling borrowers avoid foreclosure and financial markets avoid more credit-related losses. The loans would be bought by the Federal Housing Administration, a Depression-era agency that insures loans made to borrowers with poor credit.
.
"The effort shows that the housing crisis has evolved to the point where government officials are considering bailing out large groups of borrowers and Wall Street investors - something that seemed anathema to Democrats and Republicans all last year. Still, many lawmakers and the Bush administration have been leery of proposals that would transfer risks to U.S. taxpayers...."
.
"In addition, the document said lawmakers are working on a separate $20 billion in grants and loans to state and local government to help to buy up foreclosed and abandoned homes."
(end quote)
---------------------------------------
.
I have a hard enough time paying my OWN mortgage. I really don't need or want a tax increase to help pay off someone else's bad debt AND bail out the unscrupulous Wall Street mortgage bankers -- that gave loans to unqualified people in the first place and created this mess. This proposal, and any bail out legislation, only benefits the banking industry - NOT the defaulting homeowner. The homeowner will still owe on their loans, no matter what private lender or government agency holds their papers. It's a SCAM on the American people!

But, that was my point about Republicanism--taking care of the big guys and to heck with the little guys.
.
About now we could use some agrarian public works programs. Lord knows there is enough work to be done to rebuild our infrastructure. I don't think most of us would complain about better roads, highways, water systems, electric energy and communication grids, as well as bridges, parks, and the protection of wetlands.

The mortgage bail out proposal was drafted and introduced by (surprise!) -- Democrats. From where I sit, there is very little difference between party platforms when it comes to the almighty buck and lining their own pockets. The Wall Street mortgage houses have Repuglicans AND Demorats on their Boards of Directors. They're ALL greedy scoundrels!!

Do I sound disgusted? I am!

I meant Republicanism as compared to Liberalism and not party affiliation.
.
There are a lot of Democrats and Republicans that buy into the Republicanist way of representation. And, there are a few Democrats and Republicans who believe in a dialogical approach to representation. But, not enough. Generally, people are influenced by the media that dominates our thinking.

It is Obama's approach to America in his campaign.
.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/cgi-bin/d...
.
In the talk he gave in conjunction with the Richardson endorsement held in the Northwestern U.S., someone in the audience yelled, "We love you.", and he turned in his talk toward the person and said, "I love you too.".
.
This guy has got style.
.
I take it from one of the points Richardson made, he all was but telling Hillary to throw in the towel and to work toward uniting instead of dividing the party. He clearly identified Clinton as being part of the older generation when he named Obama as representing the younger generation.

Here comes the Hispanic vote.

I am expecting Edwards and Gore to give their endorsements to Obama and the sooner the better for party unity.
.
I suppose they're being careful so as not to hurt Hillary's feelings too much. Her strong support will be needed. The opportune moment isn't yet here for her to throw in the towel.
.
When Obama finally is the unaminous choice, the roof will blow off the convention center.

If it was me, I wouldn't be openly endorsing either -- so neither would harbor hurt feelings. I'd want be on good terms with both, regardless of which one is elected president. And, my constituents might not approve of my choice and I'd lose their support.

Time will tell how these things work out.

One thing about politicians. They cannot worry about hurt feelings. If they do, they won't go very far in politics.
