The quesiton is, what do you think Mormons in general believe, keeping in mind what I've just told you about above.
Besides, Mormons and Baptists have been going out it for about as long as the Hatfields and the McCoys. Their theology is light years apart, but they value many of the same things.

You are falling into the same trap I believe Brian is here as your tone is accusatory. I am a former Mormon who rejected it for my own reasons.
But it's not that huge a difference. There is actually nothing in the Book of Mormon that contradicts the viewpoint shared by many Protestants in the 1830s. In fact, the theology started to diverge *after* the book was written. (It should be important that I use written here, a True believing Mormon would say translated.) This is not to say the other standard works of Mormon scripture do not stray far from mainstream Christian theology, because they do.
You cannot just use the Book of Mormon to do that. A further study is required and you must include all of them -- including the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price

- Trap
Shawn, you've already made up your mind that I'm a loud-mouthed street preacher who has it in for the Mormons. So, anything I say will be filtered through that lens that you have.
The only real option I have is to just observe this discussion. Know that I will read what you write. And if I have questions, I will ask them. Otherwise, I'm going to step back from this.
Pink, who in the past, has complimented me for my patience and tolerance has now flip-flopped around and seems to agree with your characterization of me. So, my active participation here will only serve as a distraction for the two of you. I will therefore observe and learn.

Whoa!

Here, you are expressing the very characteristic you have been displaying for some time. It goes something like, "If I can't use my boulder as a shooter, then, I won't play marbles with you guys."
.
Lay your thoughts on the line so you can see them as others see them.

» Shawn Landis - Let us drop the preconceived notions
In response to Trap posted by BrianTubbs:
Don't go and hide, I want you to know why you think the Mormons are hiding their beliefs. (Romney's dismissal of the question is another problem. It was politically astute and made Huckabee look ignorant. The response was not technically a lie, but it was still dishonest.) Because in an age where information is freely available, all the beliefs of the Mormons are out there. The problem comes when trying to sort out what is accurate from what is false. Misinformation put out on both sides requires careful sorting through it if you only use the Internet, and many of the books written by Mormon scholars on the history have caused them to be excommunicated from the church, even if they were telling the truth.
(This is one area where I really respect the Lutherans for not making Martin Luther appear to be an angel. The Mormon portrayal of Smith is a far cry from the historical record.)
People like Ed Decker do not help. I've seen a cartoon clip from The God Makers, while many of the beliefs are accurate, some did not live past Brigham Young's death and are not believed by any Mormon alive today. Some of it is deliberately put out by the Mormon church, particularly the whitewashing of their history.
I cannot cover everything Mormons believe here -- your points of contention I believe are trinity/godhead, salvation (which is something I have never understood why the theology has held on to, exaltation is the goal of the religion), baptism for the dead, the view of Jesus, Grace (a concept absent from Mormonism.)
Actually I am interested in continuing a dialog if we can both drop our notions, I am interested in theology on an intellectual level and some concepts like Grace I've never quite understood.
I can provide the information that you want. What you choose to do with it is up to you. Mormon history, or at least the presentation of it to active Mormons, is the weakest spot. It also puts many people who don't fit the mold into a kind of living hell, which is one theory for the high rate of anti-depressant use and high teen suicide rate in Utah.
Pink, I think I just misread your response.
