Ravi Zacharias shows how foolish we've gotten with deconstructing and relativizing language in our modern culture.

How is that? We DO have to agree on the terms we use in order to understand each other whenever we carry on any discussions about any subject, do we not?.

Neither Ravi nor I are saying that language is unimportant. Nor are we denying that language differences cause confusion. But postmodernists have generally gone to the other extreme, arguing sometimes that language itself (by its very nature) is hopelessly relativistic and individualistic.

I KNOW I can use such words. The idea here is that words have been decontexualized and that they must be understood in context for us to understand the intentions of the user. We do it all the time and that is why we often use examples to make our point.
.
I think it is impossible to make such blanket statements that are--apparently or seemingly--designed to put post-modernism down for some ulterior reason.
.
This is a market place for ideas where we ours and put them on the table for further consideration. Sometimes we are able to build understanding through the process.

I agree 100% with the goal of discovering and understanding the CONTEXT and INTENT behind language. We're in agreement on that point.

So, that is one of the ways post modernism is understood--words are decontexualized--they have lost their stand alone meanings--they can only be considered in the framework of the context in which they are presented.
.
Why put post modernism down? It doesn't make sense unless you explain why your are doing it. To do otherwise is to build prejudice in the minds of your co-respondents.
