» pink101 - Introduction

.
I think we need an other thread in which we can cover the generalized issues that are raised in The Bible II where we want to stick to the text as it is unfolded.
.
Generally speaking, the Bible is a major influence in America's culture.
.
It is the foundation on which the mind set of almost every "churched" Christian is built.
.
Think of THAT!!
.
The Bible re-presents us with the mind set of the most primitive of all civilized people in recorded history--one that is totally immersed in an extremist view of patriarchy.
.
When the father in any family has total rights over all his possessions and when those possessions are every last drop of the products and materials to which he has title and of his wives, children, concubines, slaves, servants, and all other human beings and animals under his rule, then we have a most extreme form of patriarchy.
.
And, beyond that, God is the Supreme patriarch of all that exists. God is righteous to carry out whatever whims might come to [his/her/its] mind. I have a relative that has recently been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer from whom I received an email in which my relative stated, "though He slay me; yet will I serve Him", quoting the Bible. The idea that God cannot be questioned and that patriarchy is the basis of the need for human obedience is plain simple insanity.
.
And, it all comes to us from the Bible.
.
I'm sorry; but, I cannot contain my anger about that teaching.
.

Imagine yourself as chattel - the whole of your existance and life itself, dependent on the whim of a man - be he human or god.

.
I know of a man who was raised to be a Khan in Iran. A Khan is a tribal chief and the sovereign over all his subjects--every last one of them.
.
When he was a boy, the people that lived on his father's land came to pay homage to his father. He, too, and the rest of the members of his family were taught to humble themselves to their father. The tribal members along with the family members would, humbly, come up to him and kiss his hand--not once; but, repeatedly when they were seeking some favor. He was taught to be very kind and respectful toward the common people who were allowed to live on the land that belonged to his father and would, someday, belong to him.
.
Of course, that whole house of cards came crashing down when the Shah was deposed by the Ayatollah. But, take a little time to think of how that impacts on the boy who is a man today and living in the United States. It was a long fall from such a position of such great honor to be just another American citizen. Who is to kiss his hand seeking his favor? The culture shock must be tremendous.
.
We have no idea of how structured a patriarchy truly can be. The biblical god is the absolute patriarch over all that is. We exist at His/Her/Its every whim. That god can take back any and every promise without notice. There NEVER EVER can be any sense of surety no matter what promises on which one depends. All can vanish with a whim. Under such a case, everyone deserves whatever they get and "to hell with you" is the byword!

Now imagine that you're culturally required to kiss the hand of the lowest of men - a man having no position at all. He's not a Khan or a Shaw, a King or an Emperor, but a hand-kissing commoner - with whom you ~must~ find and keep favor. That commoner is Lord over you - simply by accident of birth. He was born male and you were not.
.
Not in my tribe!
.
There NEVER EVER can be any sense of surety no matter what promises on which one depends. All can vanish with a whim.
.
Ain't that the truth of it!

And, that is why they work so hard to earn stars in their crowns--rewards when they get to see Jesus. Hopefully the rewards will be sufficient to earn a position as a mayoralty or maybe even a governorship. There WILL be a government during the Evangelicalized millenium ~~ you do know that, do you not?
.
About the only thing that separates Baptists from other Evangelicals is their belief in water baptism by emersion ~ and ~ that it is merely a public witness to one's salvation. It has no affect in and of itself regarding salvation.

Do they earn one or more stars per convert? When their crown is full, what can they buy with it? A leather tote? A comfy down-filled sleeping bag?
.

Yes indeed! The high priests are campaigning heavily right now in these last days. Who's your candidate? I'm favoring Elisha as President, Moses for VP. happy
.
...is their belief in water baptism by emersion...
.
Clothes on or off? Warm or cold water? Do they use the same water for multiple baptismal baths on the same day? Do they add bath salts or soothing bubbles?

.
Generally, candidates for baptism wear some casual clothing under a white baptismal robe.
.
Most Baptist churches are built with a baptismal tank. It is usually behind the speaker's platform and is like a small room with a large open window facing the audience. A set of stairs walks the candidate down into the waiting pastor who baptizes them and then, they are assisted out of the water on stairs going up the other side where someone is waiting with a large towel or robe to wrap around their shivering body. The water is warmed before the baptisms and is drained after.
.
Persons in this mortal existence develop various people skills they will be able to put to good use during the Millenium; but, their appointments to be over others will depend on merit. See Matthew 25:21 and other similar passages, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."
.
I know people who think of getting stars in their crowns as though they were scoring points in some sports game. And, they work diligently in all seriousness and conviction to win souls for Christ. And, they truly believe they will be appointed to positions of responsibility in the after life where they think there will be a hierarchical arrangement of divine government and when Jesus will rule over all earth's people with a rod of iron. During this dispensation, babies will be born and life will continue for 1,000 years. God will walk the streets and teach His law in the temple. The common and ordinary church going Christians of today won't be there; instead, they will be at the wedding feast as the Bride of Christ waits for his triumphant entry after the thousand years of ruling earth as the Jewish Messiah. Christianity, as we know it, will have come to its end.
.
It is a very solemn doctrinal belief--very serious--nothing funny for them.
.
Do all Christians believe that? No. But, most core Fundamentalists usually do.
