» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Paul Copan

For those with slow computers, here's a link to an article on the subject of God and evil. Dr. Copan makes a case similar to Ravi Zacharias.

» Migisi - Two natures of God

.
If God is real, why is there evil in the world?
.
Isaiah 45:7 - "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things."
.
Lamentations 3:38 - "Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?"
.
Isaiah 54: 16 "See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc;"
.
Amos 3:6 - "Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?"
.
.
The age-old questions... still unanswered:
.
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?"
- Epicurus - Greek philosopher, BC 341-270

My questions have NOT been answered. Care to take a stab at it? Didn't God create and do evil? Do you refute the Hebrew scriptures?

Migisi, we have discussed this at length, and I have responded to your questions. But the responses have not been satisfactory to you. So, there's not much more I can say. We're at a personal impasse on this issue.

Be that as it may, I will say (for the benefit at least of others observing this)...

In studying the Scriptures, you have to understand and appreciate how the word "evil" is used. It doesn't always mean the same thing in its context that you or I take it to mean.

For example, "evil" sometimes meant "danger" or "destruction," whereas at other times, it meant "sin."

Let's define (for our purposes) "evil" as "sin."

Did God create sin or evil?

Cutting to the bottom line (because it would take a LONG, LONG posting to explain my exegetical analysis and theological reasoning)....

My answer: No, BUT...God created the CONDITIONS for evil.

If you don't respect what I have to say, though, then consider this analysis of God, evil, and Isaiah 45:7...

Migisi and whomever...

I refer back to the video post that kicked off this discussion. I would ask that you listen to it, before criticizing it. And when you do criticize it, please engage its points.

If the link doesn't work, go to YouTube and look up "Ravi Zacharias - Addressing the Problem of Evil"

Pick a word, it means something harmful to someone. I think I can understand the concept of evil in the Scriptures. There certainly are plenty of examples.
.
Did God create sin or evil?.... My answer: No,...
.
There are thirty-three names and references to Satan/Lucifer/Devil in the Bible. Let's identify (for our purposes) this 'evil' character as 'Satan', okay? Who created Satan?
.
BUT...God created the CONDITIONS for evil
.
If that's the case, God is an accessory to Satan's evil/sin... a conspirator in the planning and completion of evil/sin. By your statement, God created and set up the conditions for Adam/Eve to sin, for Cain/Abel, and every character in Scriptures. How does that get the Bible God off the moral hook?
