We're coming up on one of the holidays that has been celebrated since before the beginning of recorded history--the Winter Solstice.

It marks the longest night of the year--it is the depth of winter.

But, it also marks the rebirth of hope.

I much prefer the ~summer~ solstice!
.
This northerner hates winter - the gloomy days and long frigid nights - the wet and cold chills to the core - the fear of a slip and tumble which might break bones - the cabin fever and winter blues. Thank goodness for holiday parties to ward off dark spirits.
