I'm with Migisi. I dislike winter and shorter days. I'm already eagerly awaiting spring.

You two need to relax, slow down and smell the delightful scents of the arctic and Canadian air as they blow down into America's heartland. Nothing is more fresh to the senses. You have to admit it.
.
Every day and every season provides its own time of pleasure.
.
A comfortable place to relax with a friend--even if it's just a book--and some thing to warm your inwards, a book, and some favorite music does the trick. Think of the windows all fogged up and the smell of home made bread, ginger bread cookies, or apple pie in the oven will soon teach you the joys of winter even when it is blowing and drifting outside. It's a time that brings back those wonderful memories of your childhood.
.
Even my family members in Florida tell me how much they miss Michigan's beautiful winters..

I would enjoy the fresh winter air and pine perfume if my nose snot wasn't frozen! happy
.

Lots of Hot Buttered Rum warms my innerds. After a few, I can't see to read. (wink and happy )
.

And windows frozen shut - so I couldn't air out the house when the oven didn't light. No sweet smells of bread, cookies, or pie -- just the nauseating odor of propane.
.
..the joys of winter even when it is blowing and drifting outside.
.
Remember that snow blower I've been talking about? I didn't buy it. One of my dogs slipped on the ice and ripped the ACL in her knee ~again~. She needs surgery. So, that blowing and drifting outside ... it's still me and my shovel battling the joys of winter. happy
.
It's a time that brings back those wonderful memories of your childhood.
.
My childhood memories -- dad did the shoveling and de-icing; gramma baked the cookies and pies; and mom decorated, shopped, and wrapped all gifts. Now, ~I~ do it ALL - and more. Yeah, I liked Christmas way better when I was a kid.
.
I only celebrate Christmas FOR my kids and grandkids. Otherwise, it would be just me, my hubby, and that Hot Buttered Rum - if you get my drift. (double wink)
.
Even my family members in Florida tell me how much they miss Michigan's beautiful winters..
.
Note they live in FLORIDA, and NOT in Michigan? Could it be because .... they hate winter too?

Not just Chicago--Kalamazoo is the half way mark between Chicago and Detroit.
.
Today is the first day of winter?
.
Now we are in the solstice and it lasts for three days, right?
.
Then, the sun begins it's six month journey back to our new summer.
.
Beginning Christmas morning the days will begin the lengthen and the nights will begin to shorten.

Someone, somewhere is dreaming of a Bing Crosby Christmas aka White Christmas.

But here in Australia, today, 22nd December...is in the summer solstice. This might be a good place to check out next year:

Santa can't say "Ho ho ho" in a few Aussie malls now. The PC Nazis tell us it scares children and it's offencive to women. One poor bloke near here has already lost his job over it. Just wanted to make a few extra dollars to buy presents for his kids, but a few grinch's just had to get in the way. It's a good thing some malls can still erect their nativity scenes, but that doesn't mean some people don't rally agaist them.

Um, actually, ah...
I was making a joke. "Ho" on the streets here is an ethnic slur for a prostitute (whore).
.

.
He was trying to make some money for himself? There IS a law here against individuals soliciting money from mall customers without the mall's authorization. There's no ban here against Santa saying 'ho ho ho', as long as Santa's not panhandling.
