- Jesus
.
I don't see how someone can look at what Jesus said about the mosaic law - and then conclude that we should go BACK to the Old Testament and try to impose everything in the mosaic law to today. .
I assume you're referring to this disertation? Mat 5: 17
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.".
From what I observe this morning, heaven and earth have not disappeared.
.
What is this 'everything' Jesus referred to? Is 'everything' accomplished? Isn't Jesus' second coming (in Revelations) yet to happen - hence, 'everything' is not accomplished yet?
.
He said he didn't come to 'abolish the Law OR the Prophets'. How could he abolish the Prophets? Should this read 'OF the Prophets' instead?
.
Who decides which Mosaic Laws apply to today and only to Gentiles, and which Laws only apply to the Jews and can be ignored by Gentiles?
.
Jesus said, "Anyone who breaks one of the
least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven..."
.
Which are the 'least' commandments? Do commandments vary in degrees of importance?
.
Continuing in Mat 5, 6, and 7, Jesus specifically discusses (in this order):
murder (and anger),
resolving debts,
adultery (and temptation),
divorce,
swearing oaths,
modification of 'eye for an eye',
love for one's enemies,
giving to the needy (and prideful 'acts of righteousness'),
prayer (and forgiveness),
fasting,
treasures (and money),
worry about earthly things,
and judging others.
.
(Note no mention of the Sabbath.)
.
Which one, if any, is 'least' compared to the others?
