- Romney
I'm not questioning Romney's faith. I'm pointing out that he's been evasive concerning the details of his faith. (But, frankly, I really don't have a problem with that -- politically speaking). I know Romney is a person of faith. I've never questioned or challenged that.

- Huckster's forked tongue
Actually, the 9th commandment is: "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."
And Huckabee didn't lie or bear false witness. This is yet another example of wilful or unintentional failure to recognize distinctions and context. Huckabee's statements can easily be reconciled as follows....
He does not believe one's particular religion or creed (i.e., Catholicism, Mormonism, Baptist, etc.) should be codified into law or enforced upon the people of America. However, he DOES believe that our Constitution, our government, and our culture should reflect God's overall standards of morality and justice.
Is there a religious (even a Judeo-Christian) tilt to that? Yes. Is that a problem? Only with secular progressives and others out of step with America's Founding Fathers. Huckabee's statements regarding faith and politics are very much in line with those spoken by George Washington.

Between Romney and McCain, I vote McCain.

Pink, in the context of the presidential contest, I do NOT.
But, remember, this is a Protestantism site - and therefore the various views and beliefs surrounding Christianity and those who subscribe to various forms of Christianity are up for discussion.

- Deists, Christians, Rights, etc.
I realize that you have deep hostility toward outspoken Christians in politics, so I have no expectation of persuading you. That's fine. But for the lurkers here...
I am not "rationalizing" Huckabee's statements. I've studied Huckabee's positions, and I'm quite confident that my understanding of his views is correct. He does not want to use government to force people to become Christians or to advance one Christian or non-Christian denomination or organization over others, but...he DOES believe that the Judeo-Christian principles of our heritage are necessary for good government.
As for people's rights not mattering if they're not Christian, that's a hyperbolic accusation on your part. Of course, people's rights matter. All people's rights. But not everyone's views prevail.
Example...Some people believe we should spend more on education than we do on health care. Who decides which is more important? Answer: the people through their elected officials.
So, yes, there are Deists today, but that doesn't guarantee them the right to have their views prevail. They have to compete in the democratic marketplace like everyone else.
In the founding era, the Deists lost - contrary to the revisionist history we so often hear (including at this site).

- Romney's Faith
Pink, the fact that Mitt Romney is a Mormon has no bearing whatsoever on whether I will vote for him for President. I am not supporting Romney (at this time), because he's flip-flopped on so many issues - and has refused to take clear stands on others.
If he gets the Republican nomination, I will almost certainly support him. He is far preferable to the Democratic front-runner, Hillary Clinton.
