It seems to me than winning in S.C. doesn't add up to any thing worthy of what America is all about.

» pink101 - Speaking Of S.C.

.
Speaking of S.C., has anyone seen the photo of Huckabee holding his right hand out over the bowed head of a woman as he gives her God's blessings?
.
He is down the tubes. Maybe not in the State of Religious Prejudice; but, with most Americans.
.
I lived in S.C. for about six months in 1949.

The jerks of S.C. aside, I wonder why no presidential candidate has talked about public works programs.
.
The Iraq War of Occupation is a public works program designed to give a lot of military corporations--both public and private--opportunities to make enormous amounts of money. Plus, think of the profits that have been made by those interests that are doing the financing. Some of that money won't ever be paid back in a hundred years; but, the interest accumulations will be unimaginable. The financiers don't want the principal paid back--only the usury fees.
.
Our government could be involved in spending that money rebuilding America's infrastructure. Forests could be replanted, highway right of ways could be landscaped, bridges could be repaired and new ones built, state, city, and county streets could be repaired and rebuilt where necessary, rivers, lakes, ponds, and other water ways could be cleaned up, all sorts of public works that would redistribute wealth to a broad based America would revitalize every thing that is down. New neighborhood schools could be built, expanded educational programs could be instituted, libraries, museums, and public buildings could be refurbished and new ones built where there are none. There are more ways of revitalizing the economy that any one person can imagine. Able bodied men and women are waiting for the opportunities that will provide them with gainful employment. A universal health care program that includes a major expansion of our ability to educate and train men and women to be health care providers can expand our ability to provide the best quality of medicine the world has ever known. Increasing our capacity to train men and women to be teachers by improving our educational system is right in front of our face just waiting to be plugged in.
.
We know how economic bubbles work. And, we can create any number of them as investment opportunities. What is wrong with the heads of the people who are in a position to create the necessary legislation? Are we so stupid as a people that we can't figure anything out?
.
.
.
But, who is offering us any such ideas?
.
Oh, gee! Think of the taxes that would have to be collected to pay for such programs. Yup, just think of that. Investments that would create wealth so that more and more people can climb the ladders of economic well being. Yup, and all it would take is some excess money out of the bank accounts of the very wealthy. I say it's about time we make the R.B.s pay to revitalize the economy they have just about drained dry. And, what do you know? The Wealthy would be able to bank the returns on their higher taxes so that they would realize ever higher amounts of income. The economists in charge don't know their *insert word of your choice here* from a hole in the ground.
.
Before it's too late.

In response to How 'about this one? posted by pink101:

The Iraq clock says $490 BILLION spent so far in Iraq.
.
Quoting from More War Funding Signed by President
http://www.nationalpriorities.org/more_w...
.
"On December 26, President Bush signed the Consolidated Appropriations Bill passed by Congress the previous week. The Act wraps up the budget for fiscal year 2008 and provides an additional $70 billion for war. Fiscal year 2008 began October 1, 2007...
.
"Total Iraq War funding includes $456.1 billion already appropriated plus $66.4 billion added for fiscal year 2008. The administration will continue to pursue more funding for FY2008 as it requested a total of $196 billion in supplemental appropriations for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The funding so far for FY2008 is less than half of the requested funding..."
.
So much for those LIARS in Congress who promised "no more war funding" - just to get themselves elected!! You've heard the quip: "How can you tell when a politician is lying? His(her) lips are moving." So true!!
.
You and I are footing the bills with our tax money! What if everyone refused to pay??
.
Imagine what we could do here at home with all that money spent in Afghanistan and Iraq, and with all the 'foreign aid' we shell out around the globe to buy political clout and cooperation. We could issue huge tax breaks for every US citizen and corporation, AND fund public works/job programs, a national health care program, rebuild New Orleans, repair our infrastructures, etc.!

Wealth is created--for the most part.

The use of tax money to create jobs is what the economy of a nation is all about.

Money theory is an interesting subject that few have the inclination to pursue. But, it is there to be learned.

America is at the threshold of the biggest boom the world has ever seen.

So, why do we allow conservatives to do so much damage to our chances for a great future?

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Once again...

We see here in this discussion thread examples of discrimination against Christians in politics. People of faith (whether they be Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc.) have a right to run for President, vote, organize, advocate their agenda, etc. just like anybody else. The fact that Mike Huckabee APPEARS to be offering 'blessings' to a woman (Baptist pastors don't do that, btw) or that he is signing Bibles just shows that many Christians are rallying to him. So what? They have a right to do that, just as other interest groups are rallying around their candidates. That's what happens in a representative democracy.

» Migisi - Huckster's forked tongue

.
Warren, Michigan - Huckabee declared his personal crusade to amend the Constitution:
He said, "I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution. But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God. And thats what we need to do is amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than trying to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view of how we treat each other and how we treat the family."
.
But, back in December, on 'Meet the Press', he said:
"The key issue of real faith is that it never can be forced on someone. And never would I want to use the government institutions to impose mine or anybody else's faith or to restrict."

It will behoove us to learn as much about him as possible. We wouldn't want to make the same mistake with him that we made with GeeDubya.
