I find it interesting that most articles I read make a point to connect 'Christian fundamentalists' with Huckleberry. Do you think that helps or hinders?
.
From the linked article: "The group says Huckabee's tax increases while governor from 1996 to 2007 far surpassed reductions, with the average tax burden for state residents increasing 47 percent during his tenure."
.
Are you sure the Huckster isn't really a Dem in Rep clothing?

In response to Sharpening the Knives posted by BrianTubbs:
.
I think the article points out what is great about Huckabee!
.
What Mike does gives us perspective about how the Republican Party has been run ever since that movie actor fella shammed his way into America's living rooms. What was his name--it seems his name has slipped my mind. happy Where is Nancy when you need her?
.
Huckabee is a good man in more ways than not. I COULD give him my support as the FIRST decent Republican since Eisenhower. And, depending on who runs against him, I will vote for him if he wins the election. If it's Hilary and Huckabee, I vote for Huckabee. As of now, anyway.
.
Hilary belongs to the establishment. Huckabee is a change agent. I WANT CHANGE and I want it BIG TIME.
.
By the way, my talks with Christian Fundamentalists is that they do not like Huckabee; but, that Benito Guiliolini is their man--he WILL get the trains running on time. He is STRONG for Israel and therein lies the key to Christian Fundamentalists.

They ALL promise change. How many campaign promises are tossed aside once they're in office!

Hello Pink. Nancy here. His name was Ronny.
.
I suggest the Christian Fundies move to Israel if they love it so much. And they can take Benito, Huckleberry, and Romany with them.

In response to Benito Guiliolini posted by Migisi:
.
Funny thing about the Mormons.
.
Several years ago while I was doing some work for a Fire Fighters union in Traverse City, Michigan, I contracted with a guy for some color separation work on some artwork for our magazine. Come to find out, the guy was a Mormon and it upset me a little that he was hitting on my wife. I think he wanted her to be one of his wives when he got to Heaven. I've known a few of those guys well enough to know that much about them. Anyway, they aren't too hyped up about Israel as they think THEY are the true Israel--the Chosen People of God.
.
But, I have heard that Romney is all for protecting Israel's passion to run the world.
.
Who knows?

.
I have given thought to each of the main Republican candidates as I have to the Democrats.
.
It is my considered opinion that Mike Huckabee is by far and away the best Republican candidate running for the nomination. I urge every Republican to give him your support. He is the one Republican who could actually win the presidency. One thing I like about him has to do with his childhood roots--he comes from the poor working class and that means he understands something about America that a man like Mitt Romney could never fathom.
.
I do like various aspects of two other Republicans, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. The rest of the Republicans are complete losers.
.

...he comes from the poor working class and that means he understands something about America...
.
He might understand, but can he ~identify~ with the poor working class anymore?
.
http://pewforum.org/religion08/compare.p...
"Huckabee says one of his priorities is to address poverty because it's "consistent with me being pro-life." He calls his desire to fight poverty a "faith position" rather than a political position. He says that it is impossible to address poverty without prioritizing stable homes and families, which he sees as "critical economic issues."
.
Um, so how is his 'faith position' gonna feed, clothe, and house the poor?
.
No doubt he's got a long list of his favorite Arkansas Christian faith-based orgs and charities who've lobbied for him, and they're ready and eagerly awaiting deposit of your tax dollars.
.
Ron Paul: "Churches should not become entangled with government subsidies and programs because truly independent religious institutions are critical to a free society," he said.
.
Read Ron's essay:
Faith-Based Socialism
by Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX)
http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig/paul2.ht...
.
(teaser)
.
"...We have seen how federal funding corrupts charity in our time. Since the Great Society, many organizations which once were devoted to helping the poor have instead become lobbyists for ever-expanding government, since a bigger welfare state means more power for their organizations. Furthermore, many charitable organizations have devoted resources to partisan politics as part of coalitions dedicated to expanding federal control over the American people."
.
More federal control.

In response to Considered Opinion posted by Migisi:
.
I like much of what Ron Paul has to say; but, he looks like an egoist when it comes to the philosophy of life. People have a right to think that way; but, it doesn't believe in a level playing field. It is related to the idea of blood guilt.
.
Get a copy of Atlas Shrugged. Read some Any Rand and I think you will see what I mean.
.
I'm not campaigning for Huckabee; but, he is the least threatening of all Republican candidates. Taking his words out of context can make any one look bad or good. I used the word, considered, in my post. I won't even consider some of the politicians as they are so easy to read off hand even without any consideration.
.
I'm thinking, "What if a Republican wins the 2008 presidential election--which one would present us with the least amount of divisiveness?". I think that would be Huckabee. I truly do not think he will allow his religious convictions to over ride his duties as president. But, a man like Guiliani scares me good. He will go in whatever direction serves his purposes which are to exercise power. He will court big money. Whereas Edwards has vowed to deny big money lobbyists access to his White House. That one issue alone is worth almost everything the others have to say.
.
I'm supporting John Edwards for president.
.
None of them bears a staggering presence; but, Edwards comes closest.
.

The lesser of the evils? Heh heh, I hear that. happy

We've been around long enough to know that all the promises and pretty speeches usually don't mean diddly once a (wo)man gets in office. It's not a dictatorship where one man is 'the decider' (despite what Bush thinks).
.
I'm still for Obama. But a small number of people who vote in the primary will decide for me, won't they.
