Most uninsured and Medicaid insurance never pay their health-care bills. Ask any health-care provider. Most never collect their health-care services.

Those videos are only half truths and their spin is obviously the kind of dirty politics we will be seeing a lot of that. How about the droning tone of the speaker's voice.

Most don't pay because they CAN'T.
.
I am uninsured. I pay my medical bills because I can - at the moment. My husband gets care from the VA, and pays whatever bills they send him.
.
There will come a time when we won't be able to pay -- being on fixed income while costs for everything soar out of sight. The hospital/doctors will sue, we'll be forced to declare bankruptcy, and lose everything we have. When we need medical care then, we'll be turned away at the hospital door. I've come to grips with my bleak future.
.
The rich get richer, the poor... well, to hell with us.

Well, it's a complicated mess; but, it's more than that. Of course they can't pay; but, the agency that is SUPPOSED to cover their bills doesn't pay either. Ask your doctor if he even accepts Medicaid patients or, if he does, does he bill for the service he performs. The docs I know just write it off and don't even bother with Medicaid.
.
The hospitals don't turn people away. And, doctors don't turn them away either. I can quote different cases where the bills run into the tens of thousands of dollars where the bill collections are just done for the sake of being able to write them off as uncollectible for income tax purposes. So, if order to make up for their losses, the docs charge those who can pay more. Howzatgrabyuh?
.
You will always be able to get health care treatment; but, the way it is now, you will feel like you're not being a responsible person lacking integrity. Poor people are made to understand what it means to be humble.
.
The time is coming when the health care insurance companies will no longer be in business. It's a long way off; but, it is coming. Our grand children will see universal health care in their time.
.
Think of the price hospitals and doctors charge for delivering babies. When I was eight years old, I walked across town to the office of the doctor that delivered me to make payments on the bill for my delivery that still wasn't paid. I doubt that ever happens today. The bill was eventually paid. I remember my mother saying something about being able to keep me because I was finally paid for.

You forget that I have spent quite a bit of time in O-ho-ho and I learned about the pro-dixie attitued that exists there.

Once again...you look for an opportunity to bash the South. And, by doing so, you yourself are (once again) guilty of the stereotyping and judgmentalism that YOU accuse them of being guilty of.

Now, you come here with your very narrowly aimed statement regarding the fact that you've "never called for God to damn America, nor [that you] endorsed the overthrow of its government]

Rev. Wright has called for the overthrow of America's government and has urged God to DAMN America. So, I think my "narrowly aimed statement" is well within the purview of our discussion.

...you evade the question which was to ask if you've ever compared present day America with Sodom and Gomorrah.

I probably have, though I don't recall a specific sermon. But you are comparing apples and oranges here. Pretty much EVERY preacher has taken sins discussed in the Bible and applied them to the modern day. Isn't that what preachers are supposed to do - take the Bible and apply it to today??!!

But I have NEVER - NEVER - NEVER declared my hope or desire for God to judge the United States or anyone in it! And THAT is an important distinction, my friend. And it's a distinction that you don't seem to see.

None of us can escape our cultural heritage and that was an important point Obama made in his discussion on the Larry King Show last night. You cannot escape your Virginny upbringing and your Ohioan racism any more than I can escape my upbringing and the culture I have been given.

Ridiculous. I'll have you know that there's not a racist bone in my body. There never has been - and there never will be! I am NOT a victim of my circumstances, sir. I - like every other person - am capable of rising above my circumstances. Only those who choose to be victims remain imprisoned by their past.

As for Ohio...I have only been here for two years, and I have preached against racism SEVERAL TIMES from my pulpit. And I have expressed on several occasions my regret that churches remain the most segregated organizations in America today. What a shame!

But, Brian ~~ and here is the point ~~ both you and I as well as every other American can reach beyond where we find ourselves into a better future where we don't focus in on ~~ like you are doing here ~~ our differences.

I agree with your first part - not your second. How can you twist this around on me, when this particular discussion began about Rev. Wright. Isn't HE the one that is focusing on differences?

What investment does anyone have in the divisive politics of Republicanism, as an American who claims they are reaching out to all people?

What do you mean by Republicanism?

Perhaps there is some worthy purpose in "rendering unto Caesar"?

Jesus tells us that we SHOULD "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's." The fact that Jesus tells us to do it is worthy enough for me.

I hope you are right about Obama--We need what he promises us that he is.
.
Maybe my comments were a little harsh regarding Ohio and the racism that exists down there. But, I know about the older white population in those states that border Dixie. And, maybe I judge the South from my years experience when I was stationed in North and South Carolina while the Marine Corps was still segregated. It was during my hitch that Truman called an end to that practice. Blacks were just coming in as I was leaving. The only positions they had held were playing a musical instrument in the band and working in the mess halls. I guess the Army used them in the mortuary services. Now, our military would collapse if it weren't for the Blacks.
.
Maybe things have changed with younger people? But, I wonder why you are so incensed with Jeremiah Wright and the sermons he preaches to his highly specialized congregation. Religion DOES evolve and there is a time that folk have to go through to get to a better place than they have been.
.
I've watched a little of that jerk, Bill O'Reilly lately and he is doing his best to keep the Jeremiah Wright thing alive. As far as I can see, he is about the only one still doing it.
.
There was a time for that and, now, it has passed. It's time for the healing.
.
Have a Happy Easter; but, don't eat too much ham this Sunday.

This is one of those "words" and "things" that needs to be better understood. It can't be explained in just a few words; but, here are the bones of the idea.
.
Republicanism, as a word, is used to mean the idea that government exists to promote and protect the special interests of politically organized groups over and against the interests of the general welfare and common good of the overall society.

I'm not making any ethical judgments of the idea of republicanism--only trying to give an understanding of what I mean when I use the term.
.
Another way of looking at republicanism is that it provides society with the public deployment of some politically cooked up scheme designed for the purposes of some special interest group or groups over and against the general welfare and good of the overall society.
.
In a metaphorical sense it sees government as the Starship Enterprise circling above the planet earth with the ability to "beam up" the administration's research teams sent down to discover ways and means for controlling the general population for the good of its special interests. It is the political attempt to conserve the interests of the status quo and tries to keep the hierarchy in place in opposition to any liberal or progressive efforts of the general population.
.
Remember, my definition doesn't make an ethical judgment on how republicanism works.
