In response to The Reverend Wright posted by Migisi:
.
I just watched the very presidential Barak Obama give his speech on racism in America.
.
I think he clinched his election with this speech. Our Founding Fathers would be so proud of the nation they created because of him.
.
Now we are beginning to see Obama for the man he truly is.
.
Damn the politics of division!

The speech is being heralded as the most important speech on race in America since Dr. King's I have a Dream speech 45 years ago.

» pink101 - Really Proud To Be An American

In response to Who is Barack Obama? posted by BrianTubbs:
.
Here is an out take from the link you gave: On Feb. 18, in Milwaukee, Wis., Michelle Obama announced, "For the first time in my adult life I am proud to be an American."
.
That, my friend, is a purposeful misquotation of what she actually said which was, "For the first time in my adult life I am really proud to be an American."
.
I must say that I can identify with her on that after having watched Barak Obama give his speech today. He makes me really proud as well.
.
There is no doubt in my mind at all. I think he will be a great president.

» Migisi - Who is Barack Obama?

In response to Who is Barack Obama? posted by BrianTubbs:

The author wrote: "That's troubling on its own -- for his and her contempt for American politics."
.
The Obamas are hardly the only people who have contempt for American politics. IMO, they're reflecting the general all 'round contempt MOST voters (of many colors) have for it.
.
The author wrote: "He [Rev. Wright] then went on to blame America for 9/11 since America has been engaged in state terrorism that has murdered far more innocents than were killed in America on 9/11."
.
As we all know, Rev. Wright isn't the only man who has made these accusations. Many conspiratists - the majority being white - have concluded the same.
.
The author wrote: "But it is hard to believe that Sen. Obama has never heard such things from his Afro-centric minister."
.
I agree with him on this. Obama himself identified Wright as his 'spiritual advisor'. Given that Wright is a radical racist, that's disturbing to me.

» pink101 - But, It Is Still Here

In response to Who is Barack Obama? posted by Migisi:
.
For what it's worth, it seems we're too heavily influenced by what the media lays at our feet.
.
In his speech, Obama put his finger on one of the most important aspects of the current "racial" situation in America.
.
Being 76 years old gives me the advantage of personally having seen what can only be called the most stunning change in technology and society that the world has ever experienced. Today's world is unrecognizable as the same one into which I was born. The change is almost traumatic. My grandparents would not believe it. And, this is putting it mildly.
.
And, I have seen the change from rabid racism and sexism to what we have today that has come to be some sort of an eye winking thing. The racism of our day is highly generational and very different at every age level; but, it is still here. It disguises itself in any number of ways depending on who is expressing it; but, it is still here.
.
I think what Obama pointed out was that he belongs to the special group of persons in his generation that are ready to go to work on getting over it. He showed his empathy for the older generation in maintaining his loyalty to his church pastor and he own grandmother while ~~ at the same time ~~ he decried the fact that they are wrong in the way they hold on to their old fears and anger. But, again ~~ at the same time ~~ he shows us that his talk about change is more real than just the changing of the guard next January when we finally get over this long nightmare with George W. Bush.
.
Much work needs to be done if we are to unify our nation not the least of which is to bring the generations together in unity. We need to see where our interests are conjoined and how we truly are in life together with the same interests.
.
I suspect he is going to work on this in his upcoming speeches and I believe he will take the country by storm on election day. Unless the enemies of democracy are able to discredit him in the media. They ARE trying.
.
I am an older white male and I am 100% for Obama. There are a lot of other white males that support Obama. We need the change.
.
If we are unable to bring this terrible chapter of American history to an end now, when will we ever do it? The Religionists are dead set against progress in their consarned search for truth in the past.
.

I read his speech. He didn't dodge. He said it as he sees it. One thing which struck me was his acknowledgment that Rev. Wright is stuck in the past --- as if no change has occurred in his lifetime. I think too many - of ALL colors and creeds - are also stuck in the past, and don't WANT change. Rather than hail the positive progress that's been made and actively work towards more productive change, they'd rather sit on their duffs (or stand at the pulpit) and whine and blame everyone else for their social and economic problems - some which are their own doing. Wright, Farrakhan, and ALL racist separatists like them, undermine whatever progress has been and must be made.
