In response to Some Insight posted by _Boanerges_:
.
The correlation is in the title of the thread and what it means, Imaginary Worlds.
.
Your comments on the prophecies fit in with the idea of an imaginary world exactly.
.
And, that's a darn good argument why we want to maintain our separation of Church and State. Can you imagine what our government would be like if the imaginary world set up in the Book of Revelations got to be the official foundation of America's foreign policy?
.
People do imagine that the Bible is the Word of God, do they not?

You make it sound like America is going to be the sole superpower.....
I believe the Bible is accurate.. The US must fall in order for the World government to rise!....

People do imagine that the Bible is the Word of God, do they not?

true.. but.. who cares what they think.. I certainly do not "imagine" it is.. I believe it.. not imagine it!.. happy

What you believe--come on, face it, Wendell--is what you imagine.
.
To believe a thing is true without being able to explicitly prove it is true, is to imagine that thing is true.
.
There is no argument here and no reason to create one.
.
Here's One Look Dictionary on the word, imagine:

# verb: form a mental image of something that is not present or that is not the case
# verb: expect, believe, or suppose (Example: "I imagine she earned a lot of money with her new novel")

So.. by logical extension, you believe this to be true?

There is no argument here and no reason to create one.

I agree....

Here's One Look Dictionary on the word, imagine:

I believe the Bible is accurate. There is no imagining that Jesus existed. That is a substantiated fact.

# verb: expect, believe, or suppose (Example: "I imagine she earned a lot of money with her new novel")

this statement presupposes that the person is not sure of the wage, even though the wage is a fact. Hardly worth speculating over!...

The facts are plain.. not imagined..!

Nothing is so; but, thinking makes it so.

.
I have been to New York City. I have walked on its streets. I have spent time there in person.
.
I do not imagine that I did that. It is not a matter of what I believe. I actually did it and I know from actually being there that there is a New York City.
.
I have read almost all of the Bible. I do know that there is such a thing as a Bible. I do not imagine it.
.
But, the characters and accounting in the Bible are not provable by or to any reader in a hands-on-and-go-there sort of way. No such solid evidence exists. Only in our imaginations can we believe all or any part of it is true. To deny that fact of reality is to set oneself up as a person who does not face reality.
.
Go ahead, prove to the readers here that you are one of those persons who does not face reality.
.
But, you can be the sort of person who imagines it is all true based on your faith. And, if you do, that will add to your credibility. Otherwise, you come off as someone who tries to make things true by clenching your teeth and closing your eyes and repeating over and over and over again as you stomp your feet that you do not imagine when every one knows that you do.
.
Which one will you be?
.
happy
.
Now, let's stop being silly, oKay?

Oh.. but I disagree..

And.. as I said.. I have absolutely no interest to discuss it.. You can, by all means.. Just, don't include me in such a worthless diatribe!....

Only in our imaginations can we believe all or any part of it is true.

Must be true for Thomas Jefferson and all the rest! happy

Go ahead, prove to the readers here that you are one of those persons who does not face reality.

As soon as you can prove that Jefferson is a real person!...

Once you do that, then count me in! happy

Otherwise, I have no interest in wasting my time on such a trivial pursuit... happy

» pink101 - Thomas Jefferson

In response to But posted by _Boanerges_:
.
We can produce an overwhelming amount of evidence regarding the truth of Thomas Jefferson's existence and we can start with Monticello--his home that he designed and built. We know he founded the University of Virgina. We can see and read, with our own eyes, his hand writing and we can see his signature. We can read numerous first hand accounts regarding his existence and presence in a very large variety of occasions. The proof of his existence is overwhelming. There may even be a "death mask" of Jefferson that can be seen. We know where his body is buried. We could dig it up if it were necessary. We have several portraits of Thomas Jefferson. No credible proof can be brought to the table that claims he did not exist. Whereas the same can never be said about such characters as Adam and Eve or Noah or Moses or almost every other biblical character. Although, we DO believe in our imagination that most, if not all, of them did exist. We have no more actual proof of their existence than we do of Shakespeare's Hamlet; although there was such a Prince of Denmark in history.
.
You can, as I said, stomp your feet in disagreement. I hope you don't break an arch doing that.
.
happy
.
Nothing that I have written here in any way detracts from the value of anyone's belief that the Bible is literally true.

Same is true for Jesus of Nazareth... happy

pretty much eliminates the "imagining" idea....

well.. at any rate, you should know by now Phil that my interests here are not debates concerning the Bible, Christianity etc...

So.. don't plan on me any time soon on doing that.. Passing conversation, such as I did with Mig, in the other thread, is about my limits....

Otherwise, lets remain friendly and discuss things other than the above fore mentioned!...

If that was the case, nobody'd be able to question Jesus' existence. Brian and I already went a few rounds on the hearsay evidence for Jesus a while back (Pliny the Younger, Seutonius, Josephus, etc.). So, you're right... no need to rehash it. Evenso, if some physical proof was discovered that Jesus did indeed exist, that wouldn't be proof that he was/is God or that the signs and wonders he allegedly performed actually happened.

How's your weather tonight? They're predicting major ice for us a-g-a-i-n! Sigh andsad

weather is going to be an ice storm here later tonight!

As for the other parts of your message... thanks for the considerations. however, as you are aware.. why bother! happy

I say that with respect Mig.. no need to tear each other apart for something that, quite frankly, will mean nothing to those who are not concerned.... If anyone can produce evidence that Jefferson was a real living person, then.. I'm waiting!..

Otherwise, it would appear its only a belief that he existed - according to Phil.... Evidence he existed? sounds like a familiar story!

I do not doubt the Thomas Jefferson was in fact, as we imagined it so.... I see no reason why others would be called into question.. There would be many many cultures that did not mention Jefferson in their time frame as well...

and.. so.. the world continues to turn!
