Jesus knew:

"It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household!
.
26 "So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known." (Mat 10:25-26)

I wouldn't waste the time watching those folks.. among a multitude of others....

but.. we can also list many, many, good and worthy preachers and teachers of God? J Vernon McGee comes to mind right off.. Charles Stanley, Tony Evans, Alister Baggs(sp?), Noah Hutchings - to name a few......

remember what Jesus taught! There WILL be sheep in wolves clothing! It started when the Church started....

I wonder... did Copeland, Dollar, Haggard, Hinn etc. start out as 'good and worthy preachers' (like the ones you like) and corruption overcame them. Or, were they corrupt right from the start?

I can vouch for that.
.
He strictly stuck to a teaching ministry and never, ever promoted emotional upheavals or responses.
.
McGee's ministry is still in teaching; but, the times have changed drastically.
.
Has anyone read Frank Schaeffer's book, Crazy for God?
.
Here is a quote from the book,
.
"The public image of the leaders of the religious right I met with so many times also contrasted with who they really were. In public, they maintained an image that was usually quite smooth. In private, they ranged from unreconstructed bigot reactionaries like Jerry Falwell, to Dr. Dobson, the most power-hungry and ambitious person I have ever met, to Billy Graham, a very weird man indeed who lived an oddly sheltered life in a celebrity/ministry cocoon, to Pat Robertson, who would have had a hard time finding work in any job where hearing voices is not a requirement" .-Frank Schaeffer, Crazy for God
.
You are probably familiar with Frank's father, Franics Schaeffer.
.
Check out the book:

Mat 24:24 "For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect-if that were possible."
.
How can anyone know who's a deceiver and who isn't? Are there any obvious red flags to watch for?

Well, if they are professing to be a true, born again believer, then they MUST adhere to the Scriptures. So, the quick answer is that they must give the scriptures, according to the scriptures......
On balance, the Bible should be taken literal.. Obviously there are other inferences, but, usually those are clearly revealed within the texts.... such as 'the dragon and the third of the stars'.... etc....

Rev 12:3-4: And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

Dragon is Lucifer
stars of heaven are fallen angels
the woman is Israel
child is Jesus...

As for the 7 heads and 10 horns.... I believe these refer to the last days of Tribulation when the Kingdom of AntiChrist shares power with ten kings...

Daniel 7:24: The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings.

Rev 17:12: The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast.

I believe these 10 kings are the final 10 'trade unions' that are the results of world government... Such as the EU.. The UN made a diagram of these 10 zones back in the 50's.. I will find it for you later.. (try a google search!)... happy
