» _Boanerges_ - The idea
In response to Speaking of corruption.... posted by Migisi:
The idea that we seem to automatically think a popularly religious person is beyond suspicion or reproach might be a big part of the problem.
"The idea that we seem to automatically"
I'm not sure who you refer to when you say "we".. maybe you meant to say "you".. because, as for me.. I trust what the apostle Paul instructed us to do.. "prove all things".... I agree with the simple assessment.....
I'm sure there are people as you suggested.. but, I find it hard to believe the most people agree, let alone watch Televangels...
if you compare the amount of people watching MTV or VH1 and then compare that to say, the Trinity Broadcast Network.. you'll find that the vast majority of people are on other channels and the internet...
Christianity is all but swept under the rug today.. and the Bible is on the verge of being outlawed as a literal work of hate crime's... (pc crowd = secular progs)..... so much for freedom of religion.. and speech...![]()

.
There is a rush to associate with birds that seem to be of the same feather.
.
All Christians are not of that ilk; but, there is a tendency to gravitate over there.
.
The problem appears to be that those Christians who open up their minds tend to quickly move away from the main stream dogmatism and doctrine.
.
Look at me!~

Hah hah!

Brian Tubbs
- Cynicism and Plane Crashes
Migisi, your cynicism is unjustified. Yes, there have been dozens of scandals concerning evangelical, Christian leaders in the last decade or so. (Probably many, many more cases of serious corruption and/or ethical issues that we don't even know about). But....
What about the honest ones? There are so many more honest, sincere, devout men and women laboring in Christian churches that are worthy of our respect and esteem. Most pastors do not look at child porn, abuse kids, embezzle money, etc., etc., etc. Most Christian leaders don't do this. And when I say "most," I don't just mean a majority. I mean an OVERWHELMING majority.
It's like plane crashes. How many flights are there each day? Thousands? Tens of thousands (when you throw in the smaller planes too)? But...we only hear about the crashes. There are no bulletins - "United Airlines Flight 4008 Took Off, Flew to its Destination, and Landed Without Incident Today."

I agree with you, Bri. There are far more pastors and preachers (IMO, a vast majority) who appear to be good and honest. But as you say, there may be "many, many more cases of serious corruption and/or ethical issues that we don't even know about".
.
From your linked article:
"ORU's Board of Regents also announced that Oral Roberts and Richard Roberts would remain on the Board as "spiritual regents" but would not be allowed to vote in any matters concerning the governance or business of the University."
.
I'm baffled how either could be retained as 'spiritual regents', given their intentional and obvious ~unspiritual~ behavior. If you were a member of the ORU Board, would you have agreed with this compromise?

The video is very good; but, what do you have to say about it in retrospect?
