I want to know what his position is on the issues as I have listed them:

from what I remember coming from Paul on these issues...

#1. Education
state government

#3. Health-care
state

#4. Foreign Relations
withdrawal from most everywhere

#5. The Economy
would rebound by eliminating (entirely) the IRS and the Federal Reserve

The video is excellent. None of that gobble de gook you hear from most others.

Ron Paul is a libertarian, and that vision/perspective on the United States was REJECTED when we tossed the Articles of Confederation out the window (where it belonged) and embraced the Constitution. Sorry, Wendell, but you're off base on this one.

.
So, let's look at those issues one by one, okay?
.
First one is education.
.
Your understanding is that he would relegate that to the individual states.
.
Then, does that mean states would be forced to compete with each other regarding the quality and or cost of public education?
.
So, if the people of any state wanted to effect their public education it would have to be done at the local levels?
.
California would have it's own educational system as would Rhode Island?
.
How would that have an affect on what education was offered in Texas compared to Utah? And how would it be funded in any single state?
.
There has to be some comprehensiveness in a candidate's policies. We've already had enough of cowboy government.
.

I believe what Paul states is accurate to our Constitution.. That is his defining statement....
off base? I don't think so.... Rudy is a fraud, establishment elitist .... as with ALL of them with the exception of those who are wasting their time.... Rudy was in 9-11 neck deep.. he would be a disaster for this country.. his smile is as fake as it comes..
they are all worthless..... and have nothing to offer.. nothing...
I believe this country is on its death bed anyway, so, I really don't see much to any of it anyway..

All this is simply - an exercise in futility... and its be going on for 2yrs now.. (yawn yawn).. people are so sick of this...

Paul received $4mil in one day.. his problem was HOW to spend it all.... now then, hundreds of millions for worthless people.. that should make anyone sick to their stomachs....

says a lot about the American Way..sad

I would not jump to such a quick conclusion for others if I were you.
.
Wendell has complex thoughts that can't be explained by the single word, Libertarian.
.
While I do believe Paul has Libertarian ideals, parts of them are good and that is how political parties used to build their platform--plank by plank. These singular ideas are planks and we need to understand them one by one.
.
I'm sure you agree.
.
In fact, that is--in essence--what the parties are attempting to do by floating all these different candidates for nomination in front of the American electorate.

» pink101 - FAMILY EDUCATION FREEDOM ACT

In response to AMILY EDUCATION FREEDOM ACT posted by _Boanerges_:
.
Here's Ron Paul in your link:
.
"Mr. Speaker, I rise today to introduce the Family Education Freedom Act, a bill to empower millions of working and middle-class Americans to choose a non-public education for their children, as well as making it easier for parents to actively participate in improving public schools. The Family Education Freedom Act accomplishes it goals by allowing American parents a tax credit of up to $3,000 for the expenses incurred in sending their child to private, public, parochial, other religious school, or for home schooling their children."
.
What THAT does is preclude the fact that our educational problem originates in the lower classes--not the middle classes. And, it commercializes education instead of making it a responsibility of government. The way to improve public education is to hold a steady barrage of public discussions in which education is the central issue until the idea begins to sink in to the American electorate. A good president could make use of the Bully Pulpit and their business to host such discussions in the media--maybe a two or three hour session once a month with various educators holding forth. That's my opinion.
.
He just lost me with his subsidy of private enterprise.

I don't agree. Why should I be forced to send my kids to a school system that does not contain or teach my values!
I advocate the abolishment of public schools altogether....
If you are worried about the lower classes, then you can pay for their education.. Otherwise, I don't see a reason why I should reward a class of people who refuse to be educated by forcing me to pay for their education.. through MY Real Estate taxes (90%).. Its forced taxation. forget it.. I won't....

A few years ago, the KC School district was so bad it lost its accreditation altogether.....

Heh heh heh.
.
Your post sez far more about you than it does anything else.
.
You are presenting yourself as a selfish, ungrateful, egotistic, and miserly person who has no understanding of what America is all about. You have been confused by the conservative idea that you have every right to think you are an island entirely unto yourself. You couldn't make it across the street in the society in which you think you want to live. You don't know your own condition. Our universities would not exist if it were not for society's responsibility to underwrite them--nor would our schools, our highways, our sewage systems, our water works and an entire host of other public utilities. You don't understand what makes life possible for you.
.
And, that is too bad.
.
No one is forcing you to send your "kids to a school system that does not contain or teach [your] values!" You can send them to any school you please and you can teach them at home if that pleases you; but, don't ask me to finance your private schools or your private education so the public system ends up with the dregs.
.
But, we live in a society that is under our Constitution that is the product of the founders of our great nation. As a society, we would never make it if we didn't have common ground on which we stand. Apparently that is going right over your head. There IS a common WEALTH in America whether you know it or like it or not.
.
But, don't feel bad. It's not your fault you think the way you do. You are the product of your environment which apparently hasn't done a very good job of helping you to understand your predicament. Maybe, someday, you will wake up from your self centered dreams of how great you are all by your self.
.
.
happy
.
But, don't take it personal.
.
By the way, you have completely disregarded my thoughts on a national discussion about education hosted by the Bully Pulpit. Are they that bad?
.
