In response to Predictions posted by BrianTubbs:
.
GOP accepts a Rudy / Huckabee ticket (that would be Rudy's hope), then that would be a tough ticket for the Dems to beat in 2008.
.
Guliani? You're kidding. Christians like him?? If the GOP chose him, they'd be handing the Dems the Presidency on a silver platter. Perhaps the GOP knows it can't win this one, and they'd rather sacrifice their worst candidate rather than their best?

Let me tell you from personal knowledge regarding some VERY conservative Christians that Guiliani is a FIRST CHOICE candidate and has been for a long time.
.
Check out his stand on Israel which is a major issue with the majority of biblicist Christians. They are--after all--obligated to be true to the Bible. Haven't we been reading about that here is several posts?

I just don't understand that at all. Giuliani is the only pro-choice GOP candidate. He's been married three times, with one annulment (married 14 years to his second cousin!) and one divorce. As a (gasp!) Catholic, divorce means Rudy is NOT in good standing with his church. He's barred from receiving Communion and other sacraments. Guess that doesn't matter to the ultra-conservative religious, ay?
.
His longtime affiliation with Bernie Kerik should be a BIG red flag, IMO! As the saying goes... 'you are the company you keep'. Rudy appointed Kerik as a NY Police Commissioner. At the time, Kerik was just an ordinary jail guard with only a GED education (the commish job ~required~ a college degree). Rudy knew about his good buddy Kerik's mob connections -- he testified under oath in April 2006 that he had been briefed on Kerik's mob links in 2000. In December 2004, George Bush (at Rudy's recommendation) nominated Kerik as Secretary of Homeland Security. A week later, Kerik withdrew his acceptance after several allegations surfaced which would've nixed his confirmation and embarrassed Rudy and Bush. In 2006, Kerik was investigated by the Bronx Dist. Attorney's office, he pled guilty to two ethics violations, and was ordered to pay $221,000. This month (Nov 2007), a grand jury issued a multi-count indictment for conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud, and lying to the IRS. Kerik surrendered to federal agents on November 9.
.
In a recent poll in New York, 46% indicated they would not support Giuliani as President -- Giuliani received support from only 29% of New Yorkers. NY police and firemen have said that Giuliani handled the 9-11 disaster horribly, and their unions will not support his nomination. Video here: http://gothamist.com/2007/07/12/rudy_1.p...
.
Now, if his own New Yorkers don't want him as President, shouldn't this be a warning to the rest of the country? I'm baffled that he's gotten as far as he has.

You ain't the only one.

But, watch it. Here comes Brian's first declared favorite, Mike Huckabee.
.
I might watch these guys tonite. I have a sense that Huckabee is going to surprise us. He apparently believes in the commonwealth of America. And, that could take him right over to a lot of Democrats.

My post was in the way of predictions, not preferences. I am not a Rudy G. fan.

Yes, Pink, Huckabee's my man. By far.

Based on Romney's poor performance in the debate tonight, I would say that Huckabee just won Iowa.

These debates--both Democrat & Republican--are a sham.
.
Having studied political party method, one can be quite sure of what is going on.
.
The debates are live rehersals carried out for the purpose of finding out what will float and what will sink a candidate once they have been chosen as the party's nominee for president. The fuss that went on last night showed the candidates what they could get away with and what would destroy their nomination if they were to be the one to do the final run. There is also another factor involved. With such a broad selection of candidates, it is thought that they will attract a broad base of American voters to support one or the other. Some will support Ron Paul and one end and some will support Rudy G. at the other and many will support one or the other of the rest. When the final candidate is chosen, there will be a "Love Fest" in which ALL the candidates will throw their support one hundred percent to the winning nominee. The hope is that the party will have garnered a plurality so it will win the actual election.
.
It's American politicking in the classic sense.

For some reason, I always think of the cartoon dog 'Huckleberry Hound' when I hear the name Huckabee. Remember Huck - the blue dog with a pronounced southern drawl and the stereotypical southern slow/relaxed demeanor? And when he sang, Huck couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. happy
.
Haven't we had one too many presidents from Arkansas already?

I haven't watched any debates. Yes, I also think they're used merely for market research. Typical 'focus group' techniques.

Democrats sure aren't getting much of a choice.
.
But, the Republican Party seems to be coming up with a good set of choices even though only one seems to believe in the idea that America has a common wealth from which the people are able to draw benefits--Mike Huckabee.
.
I have a sense about Huckabee that he would NOT be as pro-church as Bush or most of the other candidates. It seems like he would keep his religion to himself much like JFK did. I know from my personal experience having been brought up in a Fundamentalist and totally independent of any association Baptist Church that the idea of separation of church and state is uppermost in their political beliefs. They would absolutely be against any connection even the idea of faith-based charities would rankle their sense of the separation of church and state.
.
But, I don't know. Does anyone know how he deals with it in Tennessee???????
