» Brother_Jones - Invocation?

In response to Invocation? posted by pink101:

Well, I'm open for business. Try that spirit world nonsense on your wife. If she buys into it, then we have at least another person that understands how what you might be saying is different than the materialism belief of atheists that only things exist, nothing spiritual. Once you die, it looks like you are saying that any loved one that is floating around in your mind goes into the dirt with you. So, far there aren't any takers for what you are saying. Maybe you could try it out on somebody else here. Try that.

» Brother_Jones - Concerning the New Testament

In response to Jones & Pomposity posted by pink101:

I don't think I'm in any kind of trouble when folks try to make a distinction between myself and Jesus. The core problem that most face with the New Testament, in my opinion, is whether Jesus was just one of many great men and He happened to live at the right time and right place of these writings. Or in other words, Jesus was among the first of many to come along with some great ideas, and the world has many Redeemers. It is an incomprehensible puzzle for some to read through the documents and assume that those who actually spent time with Him daily, saw such an influence that they could not describe Him with the same amount of logic and emotion as with other great leaders. Since in the progression of the Bible, nobody is described as having such amazing intelligence and Spirit that they become a point of being ascribed as the chosen Messiah. We are left with the writings of those who saw one person in time who is very difficult to make comparisons. And so digging into His life would seem to make sense to ponder whether this person caused the writers to change for some reason their entire biblical message to fit a nobody or to fit an above average Jew. Or He was the Christ.

» pink101 - The Way I See Jesus

In response to Concerning the New Testament posted by Brother_Jones:
.
The way I see Jesus is quite different than the way you see him.
.
My view is based on the fact that he brought a message of liberation from the authority of the priesthood, to the people of Judaism and one who sets the example for all humanity.
.
Your view is that he came as God's superior authority to priests who apparently were not correctly or properly representing Old Testament Theology.
.
I see that he stood up to the authority of the priesthood and that he would not back down when he was offered opportunity to recant his ways. And, for that, the priesthood carried out a conspiracy to get him executed for some trumped up charges. In that sense, Jesus represents the plight of common people everywhere--guilty of trumped up charges.
.
You see that he was a purposeful and perfect sacrifice that God provided to cover the sins of a guilt ridden people none of whom were worthy of any redemption--guilty on every charge.
.
You think Jesus is God in human disguise.
.
I think Jesus is a man who shows us that God is able to be found within each one of us.
.
Your idea of Jesus is that he came to establish a set of rigid rules as outlined in the Bible--a religion of carefully inscribed ways of being.
.
My idea is that Jesus is a liberating force that provides a pathway to a life filled with happiness and joy.
.
Two Completely Different Views
.
And, because my thoughts differ from yours, you think you have the right to put me down as an object of ridicule.
.
THIS is NOT football, Brother Jones!

» pink101 - Here Is Some Framing

In response to Framing posted by BrianTubbs:
.
My framing in the questioned post was structured so as to show some differences between the way Brother Jones and I perceive Jesus.
.
Here is some framing.
.
It is not necessarily a negative thing; but, it can create a view that--if the parties accept it--limits what can and cannot be perceived or what might or might not be thought as relative to what is being discussed.
.
In the particular case of having a discussion with Brother Jones, it sometimes has been necessary to be very specific in how one frames the issue and any points involved as he has a tendency to completely ignore that which he doesn't cotton to. I bear no animus toward Brother Jones, in fact, I have often made comments to show that I think kindly toward him saying he is an "old pal", etc. But, he has framed himself as a participant here who has very little respect for others. What's the big deal?
.
I don't think we are here to aggress against each other; but, to uncover ideas and understandings for our own edification. And, I think THAT is the point at issue in most of these threads in which some participants come--to win points on some giant scoreboard in the sky as though we were playing football.
.
But, this opens an entire other discussion which--from time to tiem--you connote by mentioning cynicism and other similar ideas. There is NOTHING wrong with THAT. It's just that it frames our discussions as though we are playing football looking for flags on the play and trying to make first downs.
.
Do you know the game of stick ball? It's a fun game that gives us practice in learning how to get along with each other in real life.

I repect your rights to say such things about me. I have in recent days made a post or two that I regret about you in the Oral Roberts thread. However, I have asked you on more than one occasion to cease putting personal information about me in the threads and to this point you have ignored my plea. I cannot imagine why you would resort to playing a particular game of threatening my privacy and safety.

Artificial resuscitation keeps it alive. Take it off of life support. It WILL die. No one will even stand at the grave in remembrance. Do you think?
