» redback - Jeff Begs The Question
In response to Jeff Begs The Question posted by pink101:Back at post 11, I cited Francis Beckworth(sp?) and altho my post 11 seems to have passed unnoticed, I'll partly repeat the cited passage here:
""...When God became man in Christ Jesus God the Son did not "give up" his divine attributes, but simply took on a human nature and denied his human mind..."
I questioned the Biblical sense (of this)...not God's capacities. This is not about questioning whether Jesus would have contemplated lying...but the tortuous description of a God in action for the primary purpose of defending the concept of 'trinity'? Is there a 'trinity' of God the Loving, God the Judge/Jury and God the Creator of All Bad & Good Things? Mere earthlings would struggle in vain against such conflicts of interest. Why? Because they struggle with the concept of a multidextrous God.
"So, this is where Jeff begs the question about why there is a need for a trinity."
Well...tis a human-only need, seems to me. As a much later post alludes to, I'm getting a sense...rightly or wrongly...that the Bible's intended aim here...or unintended interpretative aim...is to justify doctrine, not expand on benevolent or beneficial scripture.
The Francis quote above (post 11 or website for complete reference) can also be taken down a confusing or blasphemous path. Again, I know people who will proclaim how amazing it is that Jesus can do that...and see no questions. But I have a God-given failure that prevents me being unquestioning.
"Better keep your mouth shut than question time honored obedience."
A tad unkind? ABC
Aren't there also those who are Su-Doku-challenged? There is a self-fulfilling prophecy when we say: "I can't do that!" Some religious and Christian questions ARE hard and challenge Bible scholars so what hope the flock.
As in all walks of life, we allow experts to not only help & guide us, but to bluff us & rip us off. Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me should be the mantra if caveat emptor is too hard to pronounce.

"...the monkey is a "fraudulent image" of man..."
I don't know if anyone has been following the international cricket here rather than watch their grass grow...but one of our players was subjected to a racial insult by a player on the Indian team. He was called a...monkey! An insult against the...human race?
Crikey...the last time anyone called me a monkey, my lower lip trembled for a week, not.

I should have made them rhetorical questions but you gave me the impression it's OK for me to ask them. ![]()
I accept the 'trinity' has good value for adherents to that belief and I really don't aim to knock what must make sense to them. Somewhere between a simple belief in the trinity and a belief in its doctrine lies some answers...for some purpose. Simply, it doesn't yet make sense to me.

The answer most believers might give is that it doesn't have to make any sense and that it is a mystery they only have to accept.

You sure don't need my permission. The only authorities I know of here are the site manager, Brian, and other representatives of Suite101.com.

True faith, I guess. My approach is to ask every which way. Some seem to accept things...or reject things...in a heart beat. Mine has the 'continuous improvement' model about it.

Brian Tubbs
- Female Trinity
My answer is that it is not our place to invent or fashion God to our liking. The human race did not create God. God created the human race. It is not the job of people, churches, etc. to decide the nature, gender, or teachings of God. It is for us to DISCOVER God's nature and revelation - not to create it.

In response to Female Trinity posted by BrianTubbs:It's a helpful article turning to the issue of feminism's issues with Christianity. I don't/can't speak for feminism. I recall I asked Migisi this gender question re the Trinity and she responded. My question was not feminism-baggage-based but was simply an open question about the Trinity with no investment in the answer nor hope for an answer of my liking. I recall also referring to the point maybe God was above gender, despite the Bible focus.
From the linked website:
""Man makes religion." Religion is not received from God, but invented by humanity to fulfill its own needs..."
From Brian:
"...it is not our place to invent or fashion God to our liking..."
I had no intention of inventing any God as I've known from the time insight began, that's beyond me. It seems mainly an exercise here is...for me at least...to understand the sense of the man-made religion within this thing called 'Christianity'. And some of the doctrine of the Trinity seems to be just that.
My questioning may seem undisciplined by some but they are questions, not disguised conclusions.
