.
Here is a statement regarding the Trinity, on track, from the Northland Baptist Bible College:
.
"We believe in the existence of one true and living God (Deuteronomy 6:4). We also believe in the doctrine of the Trinity; that is, within the unity of the Godhead there exists three persons-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit-who in essence are co-equal and co-eternal, yet distinct though harmonious works."
.
It seems like a very broad description that almost anyone can believe.

How does it add up? THREE 'distinct' persons equals ONE God?

I think ~ if you read it carefully ~ you will see that it does not say that.
.
One could say that our American government is unified as a single "head" with the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches; but, they are three separate representations and ~ in the end ~ are all speak in a single voice.
.
Non-Christian religions can make the same claim about a "godhead" using different or the same words to represent the parts. To expand the original statement, one can say, "Father, Children, and Spirit". And, YOU can be one of the children in that case. So, the ONE is within you.

...Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches...
.
I get your ideas. With this analogy: The Godhead has a separation of powers? Each has some authority to act on its own? Each has some authority to regulate the other two? Is the Executive branch symbolic of God?
.
And, YOU can be one of the children in that case. So, the ONE is within you.
.
I can be a child of God now, and have God within me, without believing in a triune Godhead.

It's not what any person believes. Instead, it is a definition of the Trinity.
.
Yes, I think the central government of the U.S.A. is analogous to the Trinity.
.
And, I have an idea we can find many other concepts that can be see so.

It's the 4th century Nicene Creed definition - developed and voted upon by bishops. If any person doesn't believe it, hell awaits them.

In response to The ONE posted by Migisi:

Migisi, the Apostle Paul says that we must "confess Christ" in order to get to heaven. There are lots of people who have done that, and yet who have different understandings of and definitions of the Trinity. Fully understanding on and agreeing upon the doctrine of the Trinity is NOT a requirement of heaven according to the Bible. Embracing the risen Christ as the Son of God and atonement for one's sins - THAT is the requirement for heaven - according to the New Testament.

Hmm.
Agreeing with the Trinity doctrine is NOT a requirement for heaven.... embracing Jesus as the Son of God (which IS the Trinity doctrine) IS a requirement for heaven. I'm confused.

.
Don't let it bother you too much. Most people that "embrace" the Trinity Doctrine are confused as well. The way they handle it is similar to the way they handle most of the discrepancies and paradoxes in their belief system. They say something to the effect that while they don't understand how it could be, it is God's way and so, it's 100 % O.K. with them.
.
Most confusion gets overcome with the idea that it is a mystery "we will understand in the sweet by and by."
.
It's the quick fix that provides rewards in the here after.
