Back atcha both, and everyone else here.
.
My daughter's doing the cooking. Yippee! I'm so thankful I don't have to. I know turkey's traditional faire, but we're not a traditional family. We're having my very most favorites... Rock Cornish barbequed game hen, double-baked sweet potatoes with marshmellow topping, a variety of sides and salads, and my pumpkin and apple-cranberry pies.
.
Save me a slice of your cheese cake, Pink.
.
Bon appetite, everyone. Happy Harvest! happy

.
Back in the thirties it still happened in America that poor people might find a couple bags of holiday groceries at their front door.

Those were the days coming out of the Great Depression.

Thanks, Phil--and my best wishes to you and everyone. happy

I'm celebrating twice this year. Last night my son and I enjoyed a gourmet turkey feast at my daughter's house (her husband is a professional chef).

Today my mother is coming here to celebrate with my son and me. The menu's homemade pizza. LOL

In past years when I was cooking Thanksgiving dinner, the traditon was to invite people to join us who didn't have any family nearby. One year there were 18 at the table. My church does an annual turkey drive for the local food shelf. This year they were able to buy about 100 turkeys!!!!! The foodshelf puts together all the fixings for a meal, and actually delivers to the elderly or shut-ins.

peace and love,
Paper Turtle

We did exactly the same for Easter, Paper. Sharing really made the holiday special and meaningful. My kids do the same today. Never know who's going to be sitting at the table next to me today.
.
Have a great day!

People my age can remember when turkey was 10 cents a pound and many still had baked wieners with a feather stuck in them for Thanksgiving dinner--or baked spare ribs because they just couldn't afford turkey.

I just finished making a chiffon pumpkin pie.
