» pink101 - Not Much

In response to The Times posted by redback:
.
The points you bring up are serious considerations for most Americans who give a hoot about the future.
.
Sadly, a large number of Americans have taken the attitude that the bible tells the truthful story about the future and that there is nothing any of us can--or should--do to make things go in a different direction.
.
People who think for themselves have few options other than to chip away at the negativity put out by the ideological nitwits who appear to be in control. What can you do when people believe they are under the control of a god that watches our every move and who has already decided how it all ends; will send its enemies into eternal damnation and reward its faithful with an ever lasting state of bliss and orgasmic joy?
.
Not much.

Re Harold Holt. Is it far fetched for you to consider the CIA could have got Holt killed?
.
From most of what I've read - Holt was "all the way with LBJ", was ~increasing~ troops to Nam, and commited to the US spy base on OZ soil. Obviously the US would be happy with that, so why would the CIA want Holt gone? That's not say it's not possible, given what we know about US covert operations. But why?
.
What do you think happened to Holt? Him being an experienced diver, would Holt be so stupid to enter dangerous water? With the intention of suicide? Some conspiratists have said that he wasn't even on the beach that morning, and the whole story was concocted as a cover up - Holt being covertly 'taken out' and disposed of by Holt's political enemies. Who wanted him gone - I mean, besides every anti-war protester?
.
US can & would shoot planes down on our sovereign soil if they come near the base.
.
A no-brainer, Red. Always baffling to me... other nations ~willingly~ permit (even invite!) foreign military presence on their soil. My mantra 'follow the money' applies. What did Holt stand to gain by handing OZ territory over to the US? Perhaps some thought this treasonous - enough to 'off' him? Or maybe they were promised a piece of the action, and Holt cut them out?

When first we practice to deceive"

In response to And Here posted by Migisi:

I'm coming at it from a different angle. It seems that JFK's assassination is elevated in importance and significance above the other assassinations in US presidential history. I don't think that's valid.

Looking at it historically (in terms of impact on the nation), I'd say Lincoln's murder is - by far - the most significant assassination in American history.

There is a subculture of fundamentalist Christians that feel this way, but that is not my view. Nor is it the view of most Christians. We are NOT to be passive spectators - just watching events unfold - and staring up at the sky, waiting for the "raputre" or the "Second Coming." We are to do our part, while we are here, to serve God and our fellow human beings - to make the world a better place for our children and grand-children.

Looks like you made it safely to first base with a nice solid hit.
.
So then, Brian, think you can make it to second?
.
Here's the next pitch and it is right straight over the plate: Is there any source of truth to which we can go for the answer?
.
By the way, do YOU think YOU know how the game ends?
.
Baseball can be an exciting game.

God is the Ultimate Source of Truth, but obviously we can only rely upon that which He has revealed. With respect to that, you have different types of revelation. Not trying to dodge anything, but the open-ended way in which you've asked this question requires some clarification.

By the way, do YOU think YOU know how the game ends?

Broadly-speaking, yes. Narrowly and specifically, no.

Baseball can be an exciting game.

In person, I agree. On TV, not so much.

Ah hah! You tried to steal second. You can't get away with that, Brian. You're still on first.
.
I'll go along with the idea that god is the "Ultimate Source of Truth".
.
Here comes the next pitch. If god has revealed something, what is it?
.
Life is so much like baseball. Have you noticed? And, so, in your mind you think you know how the game ends? happy

I wasn't intending to link Holt to Pine Gap although on recollection, Holt WAS the responsible Prime Minister. Both the vietnam War AND Pine Gap were subject to much protests...and Pine Gap still is. Holt is fondly remembered as a too nice guy for the job.

My take is Aussies are still inexperienced in conpsiracy thinking at that level so are more willing to accept what we're told. (I believe Holt did go into the water because it would involve too many spontaneous lies from locals to say he was never there) I understood Holt wanted to call off the infamous (obscene actually) "all the way with LBJ" and those deliberations on Vietnam were held in secret in OZ.

(Actually, I'm still bound by the Official Secrets Act given my 'top secret' clearance back in the 70s)

The only conceded assassination of a (State) politician here was John Newman in 1994 after many death threats. It all related apparently to drug gangs and political corruption where a contestant for his seat was convicted of his murder. This mood existed from the 70s.

BUT after reading Ludlum books, who knows what cover stories are created. happy

In response to Not Much posted by pink101:

Sorry...you had asked earlier:

"So, you are having a national election in just a short time? Interesting. What are the issues?"

This coming Saturday 24th. John Howard's been in office over 10 years and doesn't want us to give up on him while things are "so good". He's going to retire and handover to his untried, unelected deputy (Treasurer Costello) maybe 18 months in to his new term. The re-created good guy Costello will work closely with the head-butting Abbott.

Howard is the only one to keep the USA in check...and any recession looming. The Opposition, Kevin Rudd (ate his own ear wax - caught on TV) has largely flogged very similar election promises to make it hard to differentiate. But he alleges a fresher face (but entrenched commitments to OLD union power) but does give a better aspirational speech. And he'll sign the Kyoto Protocol leaving the USA further isolated on it...withdraw from Iraq... and he speaks fluent Mandarin.

Who of these 2 are lying the least in terms of their election promises??? I'm cynical of both. BUT should the USA be...very afraid?
------------------------------------
Trying to catch up: I understand Brian's response to your comments here on the way to achieve orgasmic joy. But I really don't see Christians having a monopoly on aspirations for improving mankind's lot. But they're a hard bunch to group together. happy

My take is Christians join in on this in their role as fellow human beings, not as Christians. In the same manner, non-Christians help them and are called...what exactly. Maybe tis a very unChristian thing for a heathen to do?

Frankly, there are quite a few people hanging around coz some of life's stuff is getting all too hard...and they await more 'dumbing down'. Some Christians hang around for different reasons...same Earthly outcome?

But be it the aloof Christian on the moral high ground or the mystic on a mountain with the answers to life, so what if some don't belief in death after life..and await what awaits. More power to them...and us. happy
