In response to And Here posted by Migisi:

If there is a Hell, may all who were involved rot there.
.
I have gone through many doors since I first entered college.
.
In my quest for self discovery I have learned that there is a class of people the members of which believe they have a mandate to do whatever will help them achieve their ends. They have a morality that allows them to commit whatever act they deem is necessary no matter how heinous the rest of us might think that might be. Genocide can be an act of the highest morality in the name of their "god" whatever it might be--generally it is the God of Power.
.
I think the persons who make up the central body of the group we are calling the Neo-Cons belongs to that class of people. They see themselves as existing for the purpose of giving civilization their direction. Consider the kind of people that belong to the Skull and Bones meetings and the other outgrowth group the name of which escapes me right now.

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - History Question

Without looking/cheating, can you name all four of America's Presidents that have been assassinated?

And then, on a more serious note, what makes Kennedy's assassination more significant than the others - in your minds?

Looking at it historically, I'd have to say Lincoln's assassination was FAR MORE IMPACTING on America than JFK's. Oops, I gave one away.

That leaves you with two more - the two Presidents murdered IN BETWEEN Lincoln and Kennedy.

.
Presidents are murdered for different reasons.
.
Kennedy was murdered to put an end to the powerful Kennedy Dynasty that was rising up in America.
.
It was an effective assassination and it accomplished the desired effect. The president of the United States of America can be murdered in broad daylight and in public and the cold blooded perpetrators were able to get away with it when they pinned it on the patsy, Oswald.
.
It sends a chilling and blood curdling message to anyone who thinks they can stand up against the perpetrators. Then, JFK's brother was murdered when it appeared as though he was going to take the power seat. And, then, later, John John is finished off to make it very clear that the big boys do not play around--they mean business.
.
Lincoln was murdered by a hit man who belonged to an insurgent group. Kennedy was murdered by hit men put in place by one of the most powerful forces in the world.
.

In response to The Times posted by pink101:

"Sometimes, the parts don't go back together too well."
I read it HERE! Referred to it over in the Great Flood debate and can now source it!! happy But then forgot to get back to your topic which has moved on a tad.

"I come here with more questions than anyone seems willing or able to answer."

Didn't Robinson Crusoe have a mate? I've always sensed a passion in you out of sync with same-age fellas I meet in real time...and it's all good. A (measured) anger, even. And to be fair dinkum, it isn't always clear to me from your posts except for a few key recurring themes. I read where you started to list out a few 'untouchables(?) one by one so am VERY interested to see how they drill down. We may seem to bog down in semantics but I DO get past that to the guts of what you say. But I've misplaced the fire in my belly for many things except mental health...so don't sing your songs as often.

The topic moved on. I've lived through the asassination of JFK (and MLK) and the CIA assassination of Harold Holt while still a serving Prime Minister of Australia in 1967...because he intended to take our troops out of Vietnam. OK, tis a theory to be coroner-visited in 2007. We've already looking at Indonesian war criminals over the newsmen 30+ years ago so OZ plans to be the real mouse that roared if we take you guys on. happy

If only JFK and MLK had lived a full life, would we have only more identified yet unrealised dreams...or resolution of some that ail us? What if (retiring) PM Howard and Abbott & Costello (TRUE!!) win the election here next Saturday OR our Mandarin speaking wannabee tells you guys just how independent we're gonna be over Iraq etc.

Just how pre-occupied will OZ be with all things US from next week?

We don't get any of that here as far as I recollect.

So, you are having a national election in just a short time?

Interesting. What are the issues?

I think the Kennedy assassination is the only assassination in which serious questions remain about the perpetrators.
.
There is strong evidence that some very highly placed individuals were involved.
.
No questions remain on the murder of the other three presidents.

» pink101 - Pink's Approach To Life

.
It has often been claimed that baseball is the Great American Past time.
.
I think that is true.
.
But, how so?
.
Baseball is the perfect analogy for life in America.
.
For most of us, it is one of the first--if not the first--game to which we are exposed as young children. I remember as a very young boy, hearing the radio announcer giving a running account of baseball games. And, by the time I was seven, I was shagging flies with kids just a little older playing the game of Fungo. It was a primitive version of base ball. Then, within a year, I was playing Batter Up, where we had no team; but, each player started out playing in the out field. Usually it took ten kids to play the game. As the batter was put out, they went to the last position in the outfield and everyone moved up to the next position.
.
Gradually, playing street stick ball, a kid learned the game--he knew all the positions and was probably better at one than the others.
.
When we went to the school playground to choose up teams, two boys would claim to be captains and they would choose up the rest of us for their teams one player at a time.
.
Finally, by the time we hit middle school, we had a pretty good understanding of how to play baseball. Churches had soft ball leagues and the city set up schedules that ended in play offs at the end of the season.
.
Baseball is a lot like life. In fact, it is so much like life, that it can be seen as a model of life itself.
.
But, have you ever really thought about that? Do you see how it applies to organized games we play everyday. When I say games, I'm talking about how we operate in all of our social groups--how we interact here. I'm talking about how it is in your religious groups and at work and in school.
.

In response to The Times posted by pink101:

Re Harold Holt. Is it far fetched for you to consider the CIA could have got Holt killed?

"Many conspiracy theories arose, similar to JFK. One was that the CIA had Holt assassinated because he was about to withdraw Australian troops from Vietnam. This was supported when the next Prime Minister John Gorton increased the war efforts."

I misread the date of a re-opening, I think as I can't find it online. I'll recheck. The Coroner's original belated finding in 2005:
http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/haro...

Of course, tis also "fanciful" the CIA would release evidence to us.
-----------
Do you know about the "joint" US/OZ secret spy etc base called Pine Gap? Here's one of many that is critical of the base:

http://www.greenleft.org.au/2002/519/270...

I watched a Geoffrey Robertson 'Hyperthetical' TV program some time ago, where a panel including distinguished, senior Australian & US military, retired politicians and others were horrified to learn the US can & would shoot planes down on our sovereign soil if they come near the base. And that "cross examination" style analysis clearly added much objectivity about the lack of OZ will up against the might of our...allies. happy
