» pink101 - The Times

.
These are the times when some of us like to take things apart .
.
It doesn't make any difference to us if its a windup alarm clock, a complicated arrangement of computers, the relationships we have with each other, or some international agreement our government has with other nations. It's all the same thing--we love to take them apart to see what makes them tick. Sometimes, the parts don't go back together too well.
.
My approach to my life is that I wonder how it is that I got to be where I find myself now. Were those choices I made that I subsequently may have thought were wrong the very ones that--in the long run--kept me ticking?
.
How is it that I made any choices at all? Why did I decide as I did and why do I decide as I do? There must be some basic force that pushes me in one direction or another.
.
So, my passion has been to learn about me. And, to ask why I do and think as I do.
.
The Good Book tells us to seek, to knock, and to ask. And, that is exactly what I've been doing. I come here with more questions than anyone seems willing or able to answer. Some might say that I'm over complicating the situation in which we live and that I should just go with the flow.
.
Not me. I take the road less traveled--the one that leads to self discovery. I want to know who it is that I am.
.

So, one day--in my mid-thirties, married, with four young children--an opportunity presented itself for me to enter college for the first time in my life.
.
I took it.

I entered college when I was 30, divorced, sole supporter of two children. And after that, another door opened up for me, and then another, and another. And here I am. happy

.
Yup, college itself has many doors. And BIG ones.
.
I remember listening to an instructor explaining empiricism as a learning tool.
.
I had been brought up in a Fundamentalist sub-culture and was out in the world involved in a great career. Then, a world shaking event came down on me. John F. Kennedy was murdered in Dealy Plaza down there in Dallas. That hit a lot of people right smack in the solar plexus and forced many of us to take a strong look at reality. Suddenly, everything was up for grabs.

John F. Kennedy was murdered
.
November 22, 1963. Thanksgiving Day this week will be the 44th anniversary. Remember him.
.
I'll never forget that day - or the tremendous grief, fear, and hopelessness I felt.
.
Suddenly, everything was up for grabs.
.
And has been ever since.
