Crikey...is this my amblyopia?

"wabout ho's telling the least lies on this issue"

should have read "...about who's telling the least lies..." although I coulda referred instead to identifying who's telling the 'truth'. It's just in this global issue, 'truth' is one slippery sucker that seems irrelevant to what's needed to resolve it.

And, at the risk of rousing your ire, I think you are coming at this question in a way that is--well--sorta disguised. It's almost as though you don't want to lay your cards on the table for some concern about upsetting someone. Maybe you could speak more directly and in a less guarded way.
.
With all due respect to every other person who comes here to put in their two cents worth--or more--it doesn't seem like we're doing our discussions any good by trying to win friends and influence each other. The point here, it seems to me, is to peal the onion. Tell me if I am incorrect in my view.
.
I will appreciate it. happy One thing is for sure, you don't have to worry about hurting MY feelings. I KNOW this is Cyber Land.

War is a HUGE BUSINESS! See who's buying and selling arms here:
.
Arm Sales Figures
http://www.globalissues.org/Geopolitics/...
.
"The world spends some $1,000 billion annually on the military." 39% supplied by the US alone. Given the US arm sales profits, it's no wonder we're always at war.sad

I don't know what the payments are on the debt G.W.Bush is running up against my great grand children; but, I know that no payments are being made on it. So, we're getting interest on interest--that's compounded. Imagine the interest on $800,000,000.00. Imagine!! Who has that kind of money to lend? Will they ever, ever have to ever do anything but collect the interest and let the principle ride and ride and ride?
.
The dirty bas**rd!! And, he wants more and will want more and more and more. There is no end to unbridled and rampant capitalism once it gets up a good head of steam. And, it has got one going now. It will ruin our society. But, the ideologues don't care because Jesus is on his way and will be here soon.

Oh yeah...

Mega-Nuclear weaponry is the greatest deterrent against a nuclear attack.
.
Have you ever seen a bar fight?
.
Can you imagine the retaliation against any country from which a nuclear bomb would be deployed? Do you think the other countries would cower in fear? Once that first punch is thrown, watch out--all the rules are cast aside. I was in a tavern and a fight broke out. Me and my buddy moved to the corner of the room as far away from the melee as possible. Bottles were broken and chairs were thrown. If you too close to any of it, you stood to lose some of your teeth or worse. We never went back to that place again.
.
When the good old U.S. of A. was the only country with such a device, it could keep every other nation in check; but, that danged Ethyl and Julius Rosenberg had to go and give the secret away.
.
What they did is the major deterrent against the United States being in absolute control of the world's destiny.
.
Their trial began March 6, 1951 and they were convicted on March 29, 1951. and executed on June 19, 1953.

In response to Just War posted by pink101:

Now, how can I take exception to anything you say without you accusing me of attacking you?

Pink, et al...

A good, vigorous, issue-oriented discussion is just fine. But what I get upset at is when the argumentation drifts into ad hominem...

From Wikipedia...

An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: "argument to the man", "argument against the man") consists of replying to an argument or factual claim by attacking or appealing to a characteristic or belief of the person making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim. The process of proving or disproving the claims is thereby subverted, and the argumentum ad hominem works to change the subject.

...and then I get personally offended when the ad hominem is directed at me. As, I would think, anybody would.

Once a thread goes ad hominem and starts getting into name-calling (like Pink's latest attack on Bush - calling him a 'dirty, rotten ----'), then debate pretty much ends. We're not 'peeling the onion' (Pink's phrase), we're just slinging graffiti against the cyber world's equivalent of the bathroom wall. I'm not interested in that kind of discussion. But, that's where we always end up, when the subject turns to Bush, Iraq, the Middle East, etc. It's too bad.

When president Bush enters into this discussion thread, I will give him a mite more respect than I have heretofore. Until then, how I describe him says more about me than it does him--I'm pretty sure of that. At least, you have a pretty good idea of what I think of the man. I think he is a crook--plain and simple. Nixon would be a saint in comparison. In any event, as an office holder of public trust, that cowboy is fair game.
