I think it's about time (past due perhaps) we started looking for more aggressive ideas to reduce suburban exposure. Ultimately the Iraqis don't like that we are so much a part of their everyday lives, yet they do like the fact that we have helped neutralized the enemiy that even they as law abiding citizens don't like... IE: crazy extremists who act a fool.
Most soldiers are confident that this will be alot like Korea or Germany for that matter. I think if we pulled back, reduced our numbers and simply established some air bases outside the cities we'd be fine.
If by chance an insurgent revolution/overthrow began (it would) and they decided to attack that base (stupid choice) they would be crushed but at least they'd have to become organized and it would easier to neutralize an enemy that wasn't hiding in buildings we were trying to search (That should slow down considerably if we decided to pull back a bit)
I don't support a full withdrawl but neither do any of the political parties. I think the problem si that you have crazies on the far Right who want to send more soldiers and start all over again (psycho!) and ignorant people on the far left who think a full withdrawl is the only plausible answer (yeah if you want another world crisis on your hands)
Having said that I think it's best if we start to realize the situation at hand as being a real issue and not defer from looking for real solutions.
Rants about Bush administration being War criminals is ridiculous... That makes 99% of the Congress war criminals too and they are predominantly Democrat.
Reguardless, I could care less about that... Iraq in my opinion was the right choice and we knew almost 10 yrs before we entered that it was bound to happen again. It did and we had no exit strategy just like Bush Sr. Just because Clinton ignored the problem for 8 yrs didn't make him an expert of foreign policy. It was during the years of Clinton that the Osama abd all the 'terrorists' were planning there attacks and even did in 1995 long before Bush jr ever came around to being president.
All I'm saying is ignoring a real problem isn't a solution and escalating the problem isn't either. We can help maintain stability in the Middle East while not sacrificing so many innocent civilians and soldiers lives. I believe Iraqis want to live in peace. The Iraqis didn't want a facist regime like Hussain and they also don't want an Empirical regime like the USA... They want to be Iraqi. We should help them become just that because we can and we have started (we're just screwing it up a little bit).
