.
When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, that was indeed a direct attack on the United States. Did the Koreans attack 'our nation'? When did the Vietnamese attack our shores? How 'bout the Afghans and Iraqis?
.
I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to war. Truly, I am.

I'm thankful for those who have defended our nation over the years.
.
The dead are dead.
.
If you're going to thank someone, thank the mothers and fathers and other loved ones who lost so much and who continue to bear the pain of their loss. And, think about that the next time you want to rush into war for some political reason.

.
And, Brian, while you're at it, you can take a run over to the nearest V.A.M.C. and spend some time sitting in the waiting area for the "Urgent Care Clinic". You will see some sad--very sad--cases of what happens to some men and women who are exposed to those necessary wars to which you attribute America's freedom.
.
Is this their land as well as it is yours?

Women are fighting now too. But I agree. We should mourn the civilian losses - in all wars. I agree completely.

I made a general comment expressing gratitude and appreciation for our veterans. I should be allowed to make that statement without someone like you attacking me for it.

Migisi and (especially) Pink,

I've done two things in this thread...

1) I've expressed gratitude for our veterans
2) I've made the point that, while war is terrible, some wars are necessary

I stand by those points. And I've given NO CAUSE for either of you to jump on me for those points. The list of "necessary wars" may be shorter for the two of you. Fine. I'm not using this thread as an opportunity to take shots at you over our disagreements - as you, Pink, especially are doing!

I stand by the points I've made. They really aren't that controversial, or at least they shouldn't be.

.
Your support of George W. Bush and his Iraq Occupation that has cost America nearly 4,000 dead and some 14,000 wounded is well known.
.
How does my telling you to visit a V.A.M.C. near you to see some of the sad cases get to be an attack on you? They are the ones we need to talk with to understand the value of any so-called necessary war. You might be in for the surprise of your life.

» Migisi - Iraq's Civil War

GUNS N ROSES - 'Civil War' Lyrics
.....
Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before
.
Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before
.
My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars
.
D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their own promised land
.
And
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
.
Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
.
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more
.
My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars
....
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
And I don't need your civil war
I don't need one more war
I don't need one more war
Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway?
So who needs me? I need me.
The civil war is raging.
Peoples houses are blazing.
"And the pipline is still gushing!!"

» Migisi - Necessary Wars

In response to Necessary Wars posted by BrianTubbs:
.
1) I've expressed gratitude for our veterans
.
And I've expressed sorrow for ALL victims of wars.
.
2) I've made the point that, while war is terrible, some wars are necessary
.
Which wars after WWII (which I've acknowledged) do you think were necessary?
.
NO CAUSE for either of you to jump on me for those points.
.
In reply to your super patriot rhetoric 'defended our nation', I asked you if the Koreans, Vietnamese, Afghans, and Iraqis ever attacked our nation. Since none did, how were those wars waged in defense of 'our nation'? Or do you really mean 'our nation's corporate and military interests'?
.
"Our nation' was indeed attacked on 9-11-2001. If there was ever a time retaliation could be justified (?) by the warlords, it was then. The men who hijacked and piloted the planes into the Twin Towers were Egyptians and Saudis. Note that our President did NOT issue one public complaint against Egypt or Saudi Arabia - despite the fact that it was ~known~ that they harbored terrorists within their borders. Instead, Bush launched an attack on Afghanistan and Iraq. Saddam did NOT harbor terrorists. He saw them as a threat to his regime. So WHY Iraq? Our soldiers, and the Afghan/Iraqi people, have been sacrificed for a barrel and a buck - nothing else.
.
The list of "necessary wars" may be shorter for the two of you.
.
Indeed, it is way shorter. On the other hand, my and Pink's list of wars which we've lived through is longer than yours.
.
If our great leaders are so concerned about human rights and 'freedom' in the world, why haven't they sent troops to Darfur -- where 200,000 to 400,000 have died in genocide and 2,500,000 are refugees? Or to Somolia, where 450,000 Somalis have fled their homes just this year to avoid being killed. Why no 'help' for those people? Simple. They have no known natural resources to exploit!
.
