Um, I think ~men~ further that taboo moreso than women.
Most women ~I~ know seek and enjoy intimate (nonsexual) relationships with women, so why not with men. If the man can manage it, that is. Few can handle even one intimate relationship, let alone two or more. And, from my experience, men expect an intimate relationship to escalate and end in sex (and sleep ) Probably reason for the taboo. As you know, women would love it if men would talk more openly.
