So?

I'd say lucky for me that we have a separation of church and state in the United States of America. Otherwise, I'd probably be burned at the stake while you and Brother Jones cheered me into Hell's fires.

That kind of talk is really uncalled for on this site. Anytime someone who identifies themselves as a bible believing Christian disagrees with you, you attempt to tweak it up a notch. You could go back and make some sort of amends with your inflammatory remark, instead of always sounding the shrill note.

I don't agree with you, Old Timer. Not in a pig's eye.
.
If the church and the state were combined, our ability to think for ourselves would be severely limited. Our access to information would be limited. The most radical Religionists would be in charge like they were before the eighteenth century. Censorship would reign supreme and people who got out of line would be presecuted like they were in earlier centuries and burning at the stake to give the sinner a taste of what Hell had in store for them would be practiced.
.
Wake up to what it is you are supporting in your bondage and superstition.
.
I don't have a whole lot of time left to sound the alarm; so, I'm sounding it loudly and clearly.

I don't think anyone here is reluctant to engage you in discussions about the various things you deplore about Religion. My comment was specifically about your inflammatory remark that I and others would 'cheer you into the fires of Hell.' I wouldn't and I am sure Brian would not. But since you want to throw some more gas on the fire, I will chastise you again for your silly rhetoric, when you could have simply backed off of it.

My guess is that you didn't read my response to your comment. It was: If the church and the state were combined, our ability to think for ourselves would be history.
.
I put it in bold and made it more direct so you couldn't miss it this time.
.
If the Church and the State were combined, it would be a short trip to censorship in nearly every venue. And, when there is censorship--when a person cannot have access to anything other than what is authorized--when no groups can gather other than those authorized by the state--when what we were taught in our educational system would only be what the Church allows--that's when you can put your head between your knees and kiss your booty goodbye.
.
And, under those conditions it wouldn't be long before there would be witch trials, burnings, dunkings, and all sorts of punishment. As a Religionist, you would be in the front row. But, you're so tied up in bondage that you don't see it.
.

You just don't get it.

I think you remind of me of what Flannery Oconner talks about when she writes that those who have left the church feel a bit of Christ, but it is the picture of a person who is a 'Haunted Christian.' Jesus comes as a ghost. Here we are on Halloween day and you seem so worried and scared that your teeth are probably grinding as you read this post.

Try getting up in the morning and remind yourself that God loves you and there are people here that also love and respect you. Shouldn't you just apologize for demonizing me and Brian?

In response to Not In A Pig's Eye posted by Brother_Jones:
.
You like to see yourself as a committed and dedicated Christian that does what you can to walk the straight and narrow and to help others along the way. That's commendable.
.
Most of the people I know well are a lot like you and, especially, more family members than not.
.
One fo the characteristics you all share is the way you block out information that doesn't agree with what you believe. You all practice a self censorship. If, by chance, you stumble over some information that causes you pause in your rush to know the way in which you should go, you hurry to find information that supports your original position.
.
That's for starters.
.
You warn others--perhaps new to your circles--not to indulge themselves in things that do not give them support to what they are being taught. Your formal groups create support groups to help others overcome difficulties in belief and you hold special classes and meetings to encourage specific study, etc.
.
That's another point.
.
If you and others like you are able to garner enough of the population to influence the choices made by government in our laws, you would effect a form of censorship that would make many activities and behaviors--now thought to be personal choice--illegal. Some of the things that would be illegal would start out being like abortion and certain literature.
.
Don't you believe that is true--don't you know that about yourself? Or, do you think that is just being a good Christian? Can you confess it without losing your faith?
.

.
Would you like to see a list of the things you would censor out of our society?
.
Things like abortion, science of evolution, birth control, and sex education would be high on the list and not necessarily in that order. Within a few generations, people wouldn't even know such things had ever existed--they wouldn't be able to even think about them.
.
That's just for starters.

Just more nonsense babbling from you. I'm the one who told you about the Emergent Church. Remember? I also, spent several days on trying to emerge you a bit into Huston Smith's book titled, The Soul of Christianity. I agree with about 5% percent of that book. I have quoted Emerson, Thoreau, and Mark Twain not only as to be seen fair, but to also introduce those non-Christians into the mix.

If you and others like you are able to garner enough of the population to influence the choices made by government in our laws, you would effect a form of censorship that would make many activities and behaviors--now thought to be personal choice--illegal.

You have no idea what my view and my action would be on Abortion. You are just lumping me into the groups you hate.

Don't you believe that is true--don't you know that about yourself? Or, do you think that is just being a good Christian? Can you confess it without losing your faith?

There are days when it is apparent that you have lost your ability to think straight and ask questions. You are simply making assumptions because you don't like to face the fact that your argument in these areas is non-existent. You can't seem to find anyone to argue. So you just revert to being rude. So why do you spend most of it on me?
