» pink101 - What We Do Here

.
Does anyone ever question what it is that we do here?
.
I know I get a feeling that I don't want to be involved; but, I come back thinking there is some thing of value to be learned in these threads.
.
What I see is two groups--one that is captive to religion and the other that is free of it. This may be the nub of what it is in which we are involved.
.
Does it make us a captive of a thing to think of it or to discuss it? No; but, to stay within the boundaries of it as an authority for our thinking is phenomenal.
.
I think what we see here in posts made by persons who claim a higher standing in God's view exemplifies what it means to be in bondage--to be a captive.
.
Now, this is a difficult subject on which we can put any handles as it doesn't seem to make any sense. Religion has historically and religious people have always held themselves up as examples of piety and God fearing members of the "Family of God". It is as though, in order for you to be seen as living in God's favor, you must join in with their way of thinking. You must put yourself in bondage to their retinue of living.
.
Sadly, I see that as a contradiction to the teachings of Jesus. No where do I see Jesus telling people to get in line with the priesthood.

» pink101 - The Priesthood

.
The way I use the word, priesthood, signifies organized thinking that claims authenticity based on so-called sacred texts.

Besides just casual comments about all sorts of personal items, we are divided into two groups. Those who believe in the goodness and greatness of mankind vs those who believe in the goodness and greatness of God.

What I see is two groups--one that is captive to religion and the other that is free of it. This may be the nub of what it is in which we are involved.

Christians are called to serve and teach others to be captive to the message of Christ. You are free to reject it and spend no time at all in prayer, worship, and sharing Jesus.

I think what we see here in posts made by persons who claim a higher standing in God's view exemplifies what it means to be in bondage--to be a captive.

No higher claim that I have seen here by Christians other than a saved sinner. You attempt to grab the higher ground by denying personal sin and claiming all your critics are pharisees and fundamentialists. It doesn't hold water. It never has.

Sadly, I see that as a contradiction to the teachings of Jesus. No where do I see Jesus telling people to get in line with the priesthood.

Your one point about the life of Jesus might work in a group of folks whose only perspective is religious abuse. But others begin to see Jesus for what He was. Savior and Lord. And that is where your mind cannot go, because you don't believe in personal sin and failure. You are just plain old wrong about Jesus.

You have made my point about what it means to be in bondage to an ideological point of view.
