Basically, we're discussing that which divides or separates us from each other.

I wondered if it weren't more than religion or that if religion was only used as the lever and I looked to history of the church as a human organization.

And, class entered into the picture.

Granted, the definition given of class seems a little confusing; but, if you give it a chance, you will undoubtedly see that class is an economic situation. And, I thought you gave some pretty good clues in post #8.

We ARE separated from each other by class. You and I don't compete with each other to buy diamonds nor do we compete to buy the favors of government or large corporations; but, there are those who do.

No--I understand the theory of class struggle. But IMO "struggle" isn't necessarily the most constructive way to look at the situation. People meet with difficulties, challenges, if you will, but "struggle" implies opposition. Instead, one can sit down and think things through, figure out how to work with the present situation to arrive at something more desirable. One's thinking is not at its best when one places oneself in opposition--fight or flight and all that.

You might be correct; but, then, how do you explain the idea that social conservatives have cut taxes almost to the bone; that Bush vetoes the S-Chip bill; that war continues. Do you not see that there is a struggle for people to share in the benefits of present day benefits and that those who compete with each other for the most valuable commodities do not want to share their good fortune with the lower classes? Have you not heard their talk of good stewardship and other conservative values?

But isn't separation biblical?

2 Corinthians 6:14 - "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?"... Vs 17 - "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you."

(Declares that all unbelievers are wicked and associated with evil.)

2 John 1:10 - "If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. 11 Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work."
.
And separation even from believers?
.
2 Thessalonians 3: 6 -- "In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us." -- Vs 14 "If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed. 15Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother."

(Anyone who doesn't agree with Paul's gospel is rejected and separated.)

And Jesus will separate people by their works.
.
Matthew 25:32 -- Jesus said: "All the nations will be gathered before him [Son of Man], and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left."

(Uncharitable goats go to hell, charitable sheep go to heaven.)

My opinion is that the Ruling Class uses religion to divide us; but, it is not what truly sets us apart from each other.
