Your list of preachers needs to be qualified as the known 'nut' preachers.
.
Who's to say who's a 'nut' preacher and who isn't?
.
Frankly, I think all preachers are nuts.

Well, they actually have reports and tv shows on these particular nuts. Surely you agree that some nuts are more nuts that just average nuts. Copeland, Hinn, Hagin, the Mormons don't really have any kind of audience in mainstream Christianity.

...he would be run out of town.

Wasn't he?
.
He hid himself and had to sneak out of the temple before the Jews could stone him (Jn 8:58); he had to stay in Galilee, avoiding Judea, because the Jews wanted him dead (Jn 7:1); he went to the Feast in Judea in secret (vs 10); he escaped Jerusalem before being stoned (Jn 10:39); it was too dangerous for him to be seen in public in Bethany, so he fled and stayed in Ephraim (Jn 11:54).

- Migisi's false teachers
Migisi, Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, the Mormons, et al are all false teachers - if the Bible is the standard by which we judge such things.

I agree, Redback. There is something about 'sick of the palsy' that is decidely sinful.

I'm not sure the sick of the palsy is symoblic of sin, redback. But I'm not closing my mind to your thought either. Do you know of anyone else who has proposed this - and what their reasoning, evidence, etc. was?

As you know, most issues have been discussed here before, including this specific one re illness. I'm sure relative Biblical authority was cited before but I can't nominate a higher authority for my ideas. But if I think like Socrates used to or he like I do, who do we cite?

I'm really not sure that ancient palsy is equiv with contemporary medical diagnosis. But I ponder the awareness of what we now know as illnesses through diagnostic processes and how ancient peoples developed their (mis)understandings in the climate and relative ignorance of ancient, non-mythbusting times.
Possession by the devil vs mental illness? What illnesses may be confused with what people were once 'authoritatively' told were instead, 'possession'? By contrast to the Biblical 'palsy' person, another Biblical reference to the physically obvious leper without reference to sin...as I stated from my first post here...still raises questions for me.
Many illnesses present far more in behaviour or manner of speech than physical 'abnormality'. For example, a person with Downes Syndrome may have difficulty making themselves understood.
The Bible is sophisticated enough to be held up as a Book of great wisdom. So, it would make sense to me that it wouldn't be sloppy about its intentions re illness. As Christian interpretations of the Bible don't survive in a vacuum, I suspect at times this is an issue that is glossed over. I suspect ambivalence towards certain illnesses has ancient (false) religious roots that may not be confined to Christianity.
Is it a deal breaker for the Bible? No. I'm sure there'll be other verses tucked away in other Books of the Bible that may add insight...or not...depending on what outcome we want the bible to affirm.
Kinda like using statistics to prove conflicting arguments. ![]()
I think you, Migisi et al can provide more authoritative examples but here's one link I found today:
http://books.google.com/books?id=ujH7vhD...
This discusses the link between illness and sin complicating treatment...in ancient Israel. And of the "dominant biblical conceptualisation of illness being a consequence of sin..."
"...and what their reasoning, evidence, etc..."
So, is there evidence of more enlightened approaches around Biblical times, other than Israel?
