» Brother_Jones - Is Jesus God?

Overwhelmingly, Christians believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. The deity of Jesus Christ is the central premise of orthodox Christianity and has been for all its history.

Lee gives some good ideas on the topic that I hadn't really considered. Probably he is speaking mostly to the older crowd in his books and logic. The younger liberal sort who are all mixed up with the light calorie version of Jesus seem to be just rejecting the bible in total almost like the way sometimes people show their disgust about a rival football team. They just are sick and tired of proud Evangelical Christians and whatever god comes from conservative churches. Unfortunately, most folk who think like that haven't the time or inclination to develop a belief about God or the time for any bible study or worship habits. Their beliefs seem to default to activities like face painting at the park and that becomes a sort of religion with no god, just a little paint on the forehead.

I have 2 of Lee Strobel's books at home. He's a fella who connects dots far more ably than I. happy

I checked out Mark 2:3-12. My first thought was along the lines of: The chap who was 'sick of the palsy' had undisclosed sins unless the paralysis was one? References to other miracles eg the leper being cured had no element of forgiveness to it. So, was the palsy-affected man a double example of: a miracle AND of Jesus' claim He has the authority to 'forgive' as per your article?

I just have this sense that 'palsy' and sin are intended to be linked here for some purpose. Did the man with palsy simply get more than he bargained for? happy

» pink101 - Going Round and Round

.
Talk about going round and round.
.
The problem here isn't that most Christians believe that Jesus is God; but, it is how we come to believe what it is that we think constitutes reality in the first place.
.
Max Weber, in his famous essay, "'Objectivity' in Social Science and Social Policy", writes, All serious reflection about the ultimate elements of meaningful human conduct is oriented primarily in terms of the categories "end" and "means." We desire something concretely either "for its own sake" or as a means of achieving something else which is more highly desired. The question of the appropriateness of the means for achieving a given end is undoubtedly accessible to scientific analysis. Inasmuch as we are able to determine (within the present limits of our knowledge) which means for the achievement of a proposed end are appropriate or inappropriate, we can in this way estimate the chances of attaining a certain end by certain available means.
.
To read the entire essay (It might be difficult for some readers) click on this link and then click on the first bulleted item on the left whcih is, Category of Means and End.

.
I think Weber focuses on the idea of how science and faith are separated by a very thin line. His explanation of how culture affects the "concept-constructs" with which we understand our realities is priceless.
