» pink101 - Mary Dyer

.
Another great article at American History by Roger Saunders:
.
On June 1st 1660, Mary Dyer was hung in Boston Massachusetts for returning to Boston as a Quaker when she had been warned that she would forfeit her life. Her mission in this last act of her life was to bring "Freedom of Conscience" to New England. In that respect her death was a success. In time even the Puritans in Massachusetts came to think of Mary Dyer as a martyr. A statue now stands in her honor on the grounds of the State House in Boston.

» pink101 - The Hypocritical christian Right

.
I believe the hypocritical christian right is now being exposed for its immoral support of the Bush Administration.
.
Shame is being poured on them and it will be a flood on them throughout all history

In response to My Rant posted by Migisi:

Actually I will get one up on all of your prognostications about Christians voting for Bush. I can absolutely guarantee you that not even ONE Christian will be voting for Bush!

Well, it's not really MY guarantee. It's actually the Constitution of the United States of America (that would be very hard to amend before the next presidential election). The 22nd Amendment says that Christians can only serve two terms as president ... Ok ... technically NO ONE can ... but that does include Christians too right? ;)

You might or might know it; but, we are quite a group of people.
.
Some are more scarce than others; while some get right down to the bone.
.
I'm Pink or Phil--either one. I'm 76 years old and considered to be a liberal thinking off the wall ex-Fundamentalist Christian. My politics are progressive--some think I am a socialist; but, I am far from that. Nor am I an atheist.
.
I believe government has a responsibility to help each person come to the place where they realize they have a potential toward which they can work. That equates to free education for students achieving at a certain grade level and for universal health care enabled by something like Social Security which is one of the greatest benefits realized by the working class here in America.
.
Oh Yeah. I consider myself to be a Yankee of the highest order.

Heh heh. Love your tongue-n-cheek.
.
Bush & Buds have been successful in dismantling that Constitution (and the Bill of Rights), Roger. He still has time to propose (impose) an extension on Presidential term limits. You know... for 'national security' reasons. (my sarcasm)

» pink101 - School Vouchers

.
Utah has just defeated a measure on the ballot to authorize school vouchers.
.
http://www.au.org/site/News2?JServSessio...
.
This is a pretty good link regarding school vouchers. I liked this particular statement:
.
Director Barry W. Lynn, Americans United for Separation of Church and State. is quoted as saying,
.
"This vote proves that vouchers aren't popular with liberals, moderates or conservatives. The American people want to support public schools, not private religious education that teaches dogma, subjects staff to religious qualifications and discriminates in admissions."
.
.
And, this link helps put the larger problem in focus: http://www.au.org/site/PageServer

» Migisi - School Vouchers

In response to School Vouchers posted by pink101:

"Vouchers will not solve the problems we have in some areas of education," said Lynn. "The people know that, and it's time to move on and focus on helping public schools in need."
.
TRUE! Why the special treatment for home and private schoolers? They ~~chose~~ to opt out of public education, and obviously can AFFORD to pay for private education.
.
Property owners pay for public schools through their taxes - even when they have NO children. If anyone deserves a tax credit, it's them.
.
If the voucher system ~encourages~ parents to opt out, how does this help the public school? Each school receives state funding based on the number of students enrolled. More kids in private school = fewer kids in public school = less state funding = another public school in desparate need. To my thinking, vouchers don't help, they hurt.
