» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - You crossed the line, Pink

In response to Cindy Sheehan posted by pink101:

To associate me with Fred Phelps - who I have repeatedly condemned from my puplit and in my writings - is to have crossed the line, Pink.

I'm going to listen to the pastor side of me, though, and leave my comments at that. But, I won't forget this one, Pink. Not for a while.

The famous line in the sand? hah hah hah But, please don't forget it ever. happy
.
You think I crossed the line with your comments about a mother who lost her son to a war that she opposes on principle?
.
What you should do is to remove your comments about Sheehan. I'm sure you have an edit button on the bottom of every post at your site. I don't think anyone would complain.
.
BTW, don't hold any grudges--they will make you sick in your soul

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - No grudges

In response to You crossed the line, Pink posted by pink101:

I sincerely mean it when I say that I hold no grudge against you. It's just that I know what to expect FROM you.

I care about Sheehan's personal loss - as I do for all those families who have lost loved ones. But suffering a loss doesn't exempt someone from having their comments (particularly their outrageous comments) scrutinized or criticized.

But, I doubt you'll see it that way. You will use Sheehan's loss to shield her from any criticism - no matter how outrageous her comments may, at times, be - and then attack those who call her to count for them.

What hurts, Pink, is that you and I have become online friends. And you would disregard that and attack me pretty viciously. Comparing me to the "jerk preacher" (Fred Phelps) is a vicious personal attack. Your criticism of me was much harsher than my criticism of Sheehan.

Her loss should help you understand why she became radical in her opposition to the war. Can you step into her shoes - or any mother's shoes - and really FEEL their pain? Parents who've lost their children in war experience Post Tramatic Stress Syndrome too, ya know. Can you forgive her for some outrageous comments (in your view) that she might have made in her suffering? As a military chaplain, you better be able to do that! Compassion, Brian. That's all anyone would ask of you. She's in pain, as are all loved ones who've suffered tragic loss. It's a pain that will never subside.

In response to The Hypocritical christian Right, School Vouchers, IRAQ posted by Migisi:

My cited comment only alluded to the common call to: "name just one person" as if that anecdotal evidence is worth a can of curried baked beans. And it wasn't your quote. happy

I'm sure I recall differences between what is a private school in the US and here but all schools are accountable here when given public funding.

There is such a convoluted funding process here re public and private schools where we are led to believe 75% of State funds for education go to 30% of students ie those in private schools...for running costs. But who gets what amount of capital funding, which school relies unduly on fundraising for simple things like air conditioning in classrooms (eg a local primary school)...and who gets the bursaries or scholarships, the best teachers or most motivated students...makes it a complex mix for our future's sake. I mean, there's a future Prime Minister amongst our current schoolkids.

But EVERY child is going to get a tax deductible lap top according to current election promises. There was a cartoon in today's paper confusing me as to what type of "lap top" was really on offer. happy

BUT there is surely endemic religion in politics via education here ie in OZ.

» pink101 - Brian

.
I'm sorry that my comments have caused you any discomfort. And, I apologize for anything I may have said that was upsetting to you. My intention is not to upset; but, to engage and discover.
.
Here is some information I received in a newsletter this morning that everyone might find interesting:
.
"There is a place beyond ambition," writes acclaimed poet Mary Oliver in one of four new poems in the Winter 2007 issue of Parabola magazine. This "place beyond ambition" is a new world, one of several explored by an array of exciting thinkers and artists in this latest issue of the magazine of tradition, myth, and the search for meaning.
The New World usually means the Americas. In this issue of Parabola, philosopher Jacob Needleman, Sufi leader Pir Zia Inayat Khan, journalist Tracy Cochran, and others engage the deepest questions regarding America: Does it have a spiritual destiny?; what is America's home-grown religion?; what happens when ancient traditions take root in a secular state like the United States?; and more. And then there is the New World of inner search, illuminated by distinguished commentators including Jiddu Krishnamurti, Ross Fuller, and Patrick Laude.
In addition to the poems by Mary Oliver and these features, some of the issue's many highlights include:
An interview with Frank Sinclair, president of the Gurdjieff Foundation of New York
Jacqueline Keeler on Thanksgiving from a Native point of view
John Shirley on spiritual stirrings within popular film
Pope John Paul II on the promise and peril of the Internet
And a paean to the Fourth of July from Swami Vivekananda, who brought Hinduism to America
The issue also presents the memorable traditional stories that are a hallmark of Parabola, as well as a firsthand look at Tibetan resistance to Chinese rule, an array of book reviews, and a gallery of glorious art.
For more than 30 years, only one magazine has served as the meeting ground of the world's great spiritual traditions as they respond to the central questions of human existence. That magazine is Parabola.
For more information on Parabola and its new issue on The New World, please contact Erynn Sosinski at 212-822-8809 or online at www.parabola.org
.
happy
.
Check it out.
