» pink101 - Each One Of Us

.
Each one of us is in possession of a certain morality a priori--sans company.
.
I look out for my best interests before any others enter the picture. So do you. In this sense, we share a similar set of morals--totally self centered. That is, in the natural state when we are alone with our own self.
.
But, there is a higher morality on which all of us more or less come into agreement with each other.
.
What is the source of that higher morality?
.

As we are about to see in the Bible thread, Lamech expresses his personal morality as though it is the rule all others must obey.
.
But, we aren't going to accept Lamech's rules as ours, are we? At least, I don't think we will.
.
Why is that?

We exist in society.

Society is the higher authority every one of us experiences. It is where we find our higher morality.

Not. Maybe you can try to explain how a person who finds themselves in a society of Nazis or your other favorite, society of Zionism, will be able to find morality inherent.

Easy. happy
.
Whatever the society is, in which one finds their identity, THAT is from whence their higher authority comes.
.
Morality is relative to the society from which it issues.
.
In fact, religion--itself--is the product of society.
.
happy
.
Religion is an institution of society as are government, education, family, and economy.
.
Society is the overall arbiter of all rules other than those that are inalienable to human beings.

A fact, huh. ABC. Non-theists love their facts. Why don't you simply argue that no god exists? That appears to be your bottom line.

You have argued that society is just a bunch of people gathered in some sense of the word--maybe a haphazard grouping--if my memory is correct.
.
So, it might be that you would be more explicit here so we could know what you think is true about the definition of society?

I can't be any more specific about some sort of nutty idea that higher morality comes from society. Maybe being polite and being strategic in masking ethics and morality comes from society, but it is nuts to think that is where we ultimately get morality. High, low, or in-between.

I think it is just going to be you and yours on this thread. You dug the hole. Time to swim in it with folks who identify with seeing all of life through human eyes.

God is the inventor of morality. So that is the nutty idea I am basing my life upon. It doesn't seem half as nutty as your stuff. ...lol.
