"Frankly, I don't think our Brian understands half of what you write in your posts." a LOL?

Umm? I think examples like 'sanger' offer up an easy excuse and I'm really about trying to let people off this hook. So, maybe Brian misunderstands 50% and hasn't the time to reply to the other 50%? So I'm totally wrong...is another side to a coin...or my percentages are wrong yet another side. ABC happy

I accept my writing style is seen as different BUT my perspective is so much different than Dr Brian let alone The PINK. happy That's far more about different expectations for being here...than semantics.

The American opinion and experience...and that is the focus here...has a mindset about it...for want of a much better term. On TV news analysis etc, Americans talk over each other which is harder to replicate online but there is a sense of it here for me. AND I'm probably the only regular foreigner that has stayed the course...a course that requires me to translate what y'all say.

This is NOT what I'm losing sleep over nor did it affect the trip. My mate is going through hell and there's not much I feel I can do.

"Migisi's Approach" - I like to think - is a 'benefit of a doubt' approach. I sense that it's yours too. I have busy married children of Brian's age (even one named Brian). Their response to my weekly well-being phone calls is often delayed, if not ignored altogether. I too look for easy excuses to get them off the hook with me. Hearing the drama in their lives later, my excuses are usually 'spot on' (is that the right usage?) happy
.

Agree. Combine the different semantics, perspectives, and expectations - which are 'foreign' to some, and it leaves them responseless?
.

We're all 'foreigners' on this site. It's Canadian. (wink) I'm glad you've stayed the course, Red. Your observation is interesting and accurate, IMO. That 'talking over' you note on our news broadcasts reflects what goes on in my sister's house on holidays. Can't get a word in edge-wise, so to speak. To be heard, one interrupts, talks more, or shouts louder. It's not an environment for the refined, but more for the street brawler. And that, dear Red, is SO American. happy

I sympathize, and know the feeling well. There so much which we can't fix.

Re: Migisi's approach ( and I'm to read Pink's approach shortly) happy

I "grew up" in a profession where 'benefit of the doubt' (BOD) was enshrined in veterans law, where any discretion in welfare law should be exercised in the customer's favour. Where offers were made in case they needed it. Where 3C became an embedded philosophy. Where BOD is inherent to 'fair dinkum'. Tis baggage I brought into retirement.

My approach here is to display the same patience I showed to eg: Rainbow, a Polish lady of variable temperament and English skill; to people suffering all kinds of mental health issues. To learn from the impatience I show. I try my clumsy best...ipso facto clumsy.

And so to Brian...the highly skilled professional with the spiritual needs of a needy flock to understand, engage and 'manage'. happy

My comments never aimed to bag him. They are predominantly focused on a critical self analysis. If I instead said I can't seem to post anything here that will give me succour, there is still the equal(?) risk I beg for approval. And the risk the one sentence will overshadows the substance of my post even if it squeezes into the 50%. happy

Dr Brian writes excellent articles on occasions and his posts (to topic) are helpful to me...in the different path I walk. I've said before and I remain fair dinkum, Brian, Pink and you are far more skilled/articulate in religious issues than I...despite your 'protest' in an earlier response.

I affirm my earlier posts that I don't believe I'm important in the overall scheme of things. I am comfortable with the fact some people are indifferent to me, actively ignore me, insult my 'credentials', don't know me from Adam and never will...ad nauseum. I have actively worked with them or provided a service to them, regardless, for decades.

"...and it leaves them responseless?"

But not me. ABC

This is not OZ lingo so much as my attempt to try avoid bogging down the 'why' of my posts here. Ages ago, I tried a number (25) to summarise my fair dinkum approach but you've probably forgotten that too. happy

Contrast, compare, context = 3C.

are performance indicators to be applied to any topic to aim for a "fair and balanced" idea. A basic research model. Very related is the other thing I flog to death perhaps...the fact there are at least 3 sides to every coin. I can't help but look at a range of options other than the populist one...hence it is an embedded philosophy that I've baggaged into retirement. But then, I've also learned to make tough decisions on a daily basis using tough decisionmaking processes...and all these things mix together.

End result = I can be a severe pain below the chin at times...you know...a pain in the neck AND a pain in the 'behind'. happy But Pink...love me...love my dog. happy

Sorry...you had asked earlier:
.
(Pink) "So, you are having a national election in just a short time? Interesting. What are the issues?"
.
(Jeff)This coming Saturday 24th. John Howard's been in office over 10 years and doesn't want us to give up on him while things are "so good". He's going to retire and handover to his untried, unelected deputy (Treasurer Costello) maybe 18 months in to his new term. The re-created good guy Costello will work closely with the head-butting Abbott.
.
Howard is the only one to keep the USA in check...and any recession looming. The Opposition, Kevin Rudd (ate his own ear wax - caught on TV) has largely flogged very similar election promises to make it hard to differentiate. But he alleges a fresher face (but entrenched commitments to OLD union power) but does give a better aspirational speech. And he'll sign the Kyoto Protocol leaving the USA further isolated on it...withdraw from Iraq... and he speaks fluent Mandarin.
.
Who of these 2 are lying the least in terms of their election promises??? I'm cynical of both. BUT should the USA be...very afraid?
.
------------------------------------
Trying to catch up: I understand Brian's response to your comments here on the way to achieve orgasmic joy. But I really don't see Christians having a monopoly on aspirations for improving mankind's lot. But they're a hard bunch to group together. happy
.
My take is Christians join in on this in their role as fellow human beings, not as Christians. In the same manner, non-Christians help them and are called...what exactly. Maybe tis a very unChristian thing for a heathen to do?
Frankly, there are quite a few people hanging around coz some of life's stuff is getting all too hard...and they await more 'dumbing down'. Some Christians hang around for different reasons...same Earthly outcome?
.
But be it the aloof Christian on the moral high ground or the mystic on a mountain with the answers to life, so what if some don't belief in death after life..and await what awaits. More power to them...and us. happy

I think you are wrong in your assumption here. Christians see themselves as--very definitely--having a mandate to follow the Spirit's lead in all their political decisions. Christians have again--very definitely--established an extra level of morality on society's norms and they again--very definitely--expound on their extra levels so that it gets to be the social norm. Think of the abortion debates and how various opinions are seeking to protect the "human being" from the point of conception.
.
So, do you have a "christian" party--as such--in Australia?
.
There are some such parties in Europe, I know.

Pink...you cut & pasted my entire post and I was looking for your intervening comment throughout, in vain.

"I think you are wrong in your assumption here. Christians see themselves as--very definitely--having a mandate to follow the Spirit's lead in all their political decisions."

You simply confuse me as do the 'Christians' on what is right and wrong. How I 'take' the Christians...is wrong? If you are right in this...and you've read what I've posted here for years then...don't blame the Christians.

Tis the mandate that ALL Christians follow? You refer to Christians doing nothing (eg awaiting orgasm) then doing everything. Then everything all comes down to politics and religion and the Christians' ruination of both. OK...a fair bit of poetic licence to it but I think it's possible if I understand some of it the way you intended...that you are also wrong in your assumption. But then I actually see a possibly nay very strong probability for 2 or more streams of activity on Earth outside the USA enabling different assumptions to be correct. happy ABC

BUT in any event me old mate...I never referred to what 'Christians' do with any mandate "in all their political decisions." My statement was carefully worded referring to:

"But I really don't see Christians having a monopoly on aspirations for improving mankind's lot."

If that is a wrong assumption...don't blame the Christians? happy

Of course there are links between morality, politics and whether or not a person gets to eat breakfast. None of my posts can embrace all these issues but ages ago I gave the stack of pancakes analogy.

I read into your response that there is an EXTRA level permeating the very air despite the pollution, that ensures Christianity's views are instilled, even in the milk in the WeetBix I had today for the first time in ages. Maybe that's why I feel sick. happy
