In response to the ON button posted by pink101:"Do you think he means Boo AND Yeah?"
Well, even I DON'T know what it means. It makes no sense nor does linking it to '26'. Everyone in the audience and the host is supposed to be on the side of the contestant who stands to win up to $200,000 by either directly picking the case with it in it...or missing selecting it through the game. I thought all these game shows are USA copies?
Anyway, young Pink, this is a Marine expression, isn't it...so what do you mean when or if you bellowed it? ![]()
This and: "Say Yah To The U.P. Too, Ay?" aren't the only things being said here I don't understand.

Belonging to the majority in a democratic society might be seen as a mark of distinction for some turkeys that strut around in America.

And, there are a lot of turkeys here. Believe me.

This is like "I say tom-ar-toe"
Maybe the 'ya' is a yeah derivative? Maybe we vainly seek only differences in accent when tis more language and usage? I'm more likely to seek a snag sanger than a banger sanger. ![]()
"and gang banger isn't necessarily linked to group sex/rape."
The gang bangers in our different cultures are both antisocial, regardless.

I think this is at the core of the occasional miscommunication here. I admit I'm ignorant of OZ slanguage.

Great example. What's snag? Sanger is sandwich? BTW, what animal is your sausage made from?

Agreed!

Rare, infrequent, occasional etc. Agreed, though tis not all linked to slanguage. My walk and talk is not of this thing you call a 'sidewalk'. I sense some here place differences in tone and import on certain words and expressions. And of course words such as 'absolute' and 'promise' stir emotions IMO because of the greater passion (religionism?) I sense if not between our countries, between the posters here. Other words, like your hamburger...seem to totally miss the bun.
As if one can have a hamburger here without a bun??!!
"what animal is your sausage made from?"
The snag is a sausage. Sanger IS the sandwich. Laws try to apply as to the percentage of meat in them but there's no restriction eg beef, chicken, pork etc. Some curried, spicy, mixed...thus parentage of meat obscure? We all do know what we're getting in a bangers and mash meal and we wouln't order a snag sanger outside of a BBQ probably.

...I'm not sure any such expression existed before I coined it...but within this reflective year, I'd like to think of some of the good stuff I've been involved in...before my jaded cynical, sweat-ridden cap got wedged above my ears.
Back in 1968, the very first heart transplant was performed in Australia, less than 12 months following Dr Christiaan Barnard's pioneering work in South Africa. The operation was 'successful' and the 57 yo patient survived 45 days. By 1984, a National Transplant Program commenced under Dr Victor Chang and the first patient under that program was 14 yo Fiona Coote...the youngest recipient who since married, still alive today after her 3rd replacement.
Patients came from all over Australia and an incredible amount of liason and practical work was needed...local systems needed re-jigging. I was instrumental in developing the national strategy needed to limit unnecessary stress (and red tape) and urgent access to income support regardless of the speculative prognosis for those on the waiting list and post-operation.
Some days one feels more useful than others and they were a great number of days. All names above are my role models.

Well, the trip was neither light relief nor a holiday.
There's always someone worse off than me is some consolation and it distracts me from my own.

My whinges are asides...not the discussion. The lesser truth is I whinged and Dr Brian limited his response to it. The greater truth is that my posts do not interest, challenge nor engage Brian at all. He finds time from the busy schedule he reminds me about, to provide reasoned, targeted, detailed responses to young Migisi and young Pink...both using up his suite101 allocated energy.
But it's OK, Brian. You don't need to repeatedly regale me with stories. I can almost hear your cyber yawn when I'm around...and sense some of your equally less interesting, but offline parishioners risk seeing it in real time.
It's all totally OK. I've been a big boy almost as long as I can remember so don't need pastor-ised cuddles.
And I'll ease up on the 'Hey Brian' and 'Hey Pink' coz if you didn't understand why I did it, you'll never.
OK...I've been a bit cheeky here and giving the benefit of the doubt, have had 'mischievous' responses in return. ![]()

Frankly, I don't think our Brian understands half of what you write in your posts. Some words, expressions, and unfamiliar writing styles require total focus. I'm sure you've experienced that with our slanguage and styles. Some folks simply have more time - to look up 'sanger' and 'whinge' in an OZ dictionary
. When one has, say, 15 minutes to catch up in four or five threads, time management says 'reply to the short and easy posts'. I guess my posts qualify. Hmm. I guess I offer no challenge.
.
I'm sorry to hear your trip wasn't an enjoyable one.
