It seems that quite a bit of social pressure is applied for all the little ducklings to get in line. There doesn't seem to be any room for anyone that doesn't bow down when the trumpet is sounded.

I believe the Bible is God's word. If you do not, it matters not to me. I find it futile to argue against something.. Its much better and more productive to argue FOR something....

Boanerges sez, "I find it futile to argue against something.. Its much better and more productive to argue FOR something...."
.
Precisely my point, Wendell, precisely.

I argue for personal responsibility and the inalienable right to have a personal relationship with one's own understanding of God without the interference of some man made authority. That is why I am so persistent in my efforts to show how wrong Religionism is.
.
And, no matter how you cut it, THAT is precisely what Jesus did. By going against the Pharisees he went in favor of one's personal relationship with God so that each person could be influenced by their inner being without the interference of Religionism.
.
I find it soooo difficult to see why persons who confess to believing in Jesus and his Gospel could be soooo involved in adherence to the Religionism of the Pharisees.
.
God's Word is God's Spirit and the Spirit is the Promise. A person may have never heard of Jesus; but, they could still have the Spirit of God in their life. THAT seems to be something entirely lost in the teachings of popular Christianity.

"for example?"

For example doctrine and dogmatism that excludes rather than includes. The mere fact you are able to think of certain persons as your "brothers in the lord" as though others are sloughed off and marginalized as outsiders when it comes to having any kind of a relationship with the Great Spirit. How conceited can a person get as to focus on such a private concern to raise themselves up above all others? Actually, when everything is said and done, it is outrageous and shameful. And, it does great harm to the "little ones" that are unable to get above the social pressures involved. Someone has to speak for them.

when I became a Christian, it was not because of social pressures... so, I doubt I would be much different than any others. ie... forced to believe...

as for what the bible says, it speaks for itself. If you doubt what is written, then you would be considered a liberal. If you are a fundy, like me, then you believe the books are accurate.

I see no purpose or value in arguing with someone who believes opposite of me, and is adman et on their position like myself. Its futile to argue this.. Thats why I have no interest to argue with you about what you think the bible is....

but.. feel free to argue.. Im not interested personally..

but.. I still like ya though! happy

I'm not going to get into 'laws of debate'. But ponder: Whenever someone says to me they didn't do X or they disagree with Y...tis almost always only half a statement. "I didn't go swimming today." OK. "I went to the movies". Note neither complete what I did this sunny Spring day. Further, a poor motivation to do one thing can evidence a strong motivation to do another thing. "I went to the Harbour, then movies coz I didn't want to stay home & clean the house." And that annoying...'I'm not saying' doesn't say what you ARE saying.

This is NOT a lesson. ABC Merely how I approach incomplete responses to me. happy

So, Pink...you actually are arguing FOR something here. The trouble is, by now it carries a baggage and it needs to be re-badged into what it is. In this competitive environment we're inflicted with, whoever gets in first hits something other than what they aimed for. Please agree with me coz if you don't you're being defensive. happy

Brian makes a similar point to Boanerges if I can accurately paraphrase:

By the time Brian provides us with good stuff per article and repetitive posts explaining the same thing to our endless enquiries, he's got to hand in a few late assigments for his Masters...so by the time he needs to prepare a regularly fresh and alive sermon to wake his dozing parishioners, he's feeling burnt out. So, he's putting us on the back burner. ABC happy happy

I hear what you're saying and--in that context--you have absolutely put the hammer's head squarely on the nail. At least, I think you have. happy

I don't think any of us appreciates the fact that we are really beating around the bush in these threads.
.
A while back I questioned Brother Jones in regards to his ideas about society. If I recall accurately, he supposed it is just a bunch of people without any purposeful organization. In that venue, people just gather in groups for lack of something better to do. As you say, maybe they'd rather play with marbles than clean their house?
.
Maybe that opens a door to a new discussion?

"...beating around the bush..." evokes different ideas of 'bush'. Boy, can I be a pain...even to the dag self!

The Australian 'bush' is a vast, wondrous place to behold. But in life, we're all confronted by tough decisions...avoidable or not. "I had/have no options" is a plaintive cry...yet many forget there were also TOUGH choices to be found among the options we forgo. If Jeff seems to avoid the tough decision another believes I need to make here-and-now to my cyber mates, I simply ask y'all to lower your expectations. happy

Brother-Jones responds to you about society which assumes you may recall mine. Can I truthfully say: "It goes without saying..." to coin a loved phrase here? happy

"Maybe that opens a door to a new discussion?"

Anything's still worth a shot when status quo needs tweaking and we don't expect change...to draw on a definition of a version of 'insanity. happy
