» pink101 - Jesus Doesn't Run Your Life

In response to My Choice Is Made Within Me posted by Brother_Jones:
.
Your message for Christians like me, Brian, and Wendell is that we are all messed up for trying to let Jesus run our lives. Well, that is what Christians do, Pinky. Other folk basically run their lives based on what you just said. Your testimony is that you run your life. Nobody else but you.
.
I'm not here to point out the shallowness of your thinking; but, jesus does not run your life, Brother Jones. You do. And--in the final analysis--that's what everyone of us does.
.
It's not that I run my life; but, it is that I have an authority that is in control of my life. You have an authority that is in control of yours. And in spite of the fact that you would speak on behalf of Brian and Wendell, each one of us has an authority that controls our own individual life. That authority is deep within each single one of us--it is the one that tells us we are on or off the right track. It is the tie that provides us with fellowship and sisterhood. It has become obvious--in these threads--that your authority is a particular interpretation of biblicist doctrine as explicated by the group with which you associate yourself--your society of those of whom you think as your "brothers and sisters" in the Lord. It might be that YOU are the leader of that group, or maybe you have some person to whom you look up to as your leader. But, it is obvious that you have not let go of your teenager submission to the church's authority over your thinking--you do not go deep into your being in search of a divine authority. It's tough to face up to the reality of one's own responsibility for who it is that one is.
.
Where in the Bible does it tell us that one must give up their old self so that one can put on the new?
.

You are just chasing your tail around in circles today. It is profoundly without logic. What in the world difference would it possibly make to a person like you as to what the bible may or may not say?

i'm just an oldtimer for the Lord.

I have to say that you look really nice and clean on the outside, Brother Jones. I'm sure that gives you great satisfaction. It is your goal to look good in all of this, is it not?

» _Boanerges_ - a side bar or aside

In response to a side bar or aside posted by redback:

Hi Jeff... just wanted to comment on your good post.... Hope its taken as in a good light, and not 'preacy'... happy

I refer to my consistent questioning throughout...that surely God is "far greater" than many literal translations seem to allow.

I agree. With that in mind, many of the things referred to in the Bible, such as Hell being a lake of fire, is greater than the wording...

That surely the message of God is far greater than any alleged unauthorised or undisciplined, irreverent, literal translation would allow.

Agree. However, I believe that if God is, then surely He would be able to get His word to us!...

That what people think the Bible says may help BUT it is NOT the same as what God IS.

Agreed... That is coming for us - in future.. The question is: do we believe God? Hebrews 11:1 comes to mind...

That anyone seeing blasphemy or religious vilification in any of my posts is the one who has it wrong.

No.. I agree.. and I believe God would be pleased that you question. Of course God wants us to question. After all, He made us with free will and with cognizant faculties.

That not asking questions is the easier option.

Makes total sense to me, Jeff!.

Please consider the umbrella sense of the above comments in my posts which can't bamboozle with dogma.

Oh.. I dunno.. I think we could find where your thoughts are 'related' to dogma.. All the prophets and apostles questioned...

My questions are just that, simply questions. I allow my questions to "imagine" I suspect greater than BJ's discipline allows him. While not intending disrespect, I accept I risk offence.

No offense taken here. I think its a good exercise...

Where my personal journey is in all this is personal and I am far clumsier in "defending"(?) that. I seek no online validation

Me neither... I have arrived in my personal journey....

God the Father...came before God the Creator or God the Lord of the universe vs the irreverent 'benevolent dictator' I referred to.

hmmm.. not sure if thats true, but I grasp the gist of your thoughts here.

unlike the Pope, God's is not an elected position. I believe it would be grossly offensive to the whole concept.

It does make sense, yes!

We are all children of God, right? So...literally...I'm one of countless unbegotten sons of God when Jesus is the only begotten Son??

No.. we are all not God's children.. A little different understanding that believing we are all God's children.

'God is Love' (agape???) and 'the answer is Jesus' provide no magic mantra for me.

God showed his love for us, through Christ, making him the propitiation of sin.. A simple concept..

Catchy stuff.

Indeed!

But all this poetic licence and selective metaphors when they suit the Biblicist...create open questions for me, not closed denial.

Keep questioning.. Seems to me God is tugging at your heart?...

happy

Good point, Wendell.
.
So, is there even the slightest possibility that some of what is written in the Bible is there to show the reader any negative aspects of how some propose to speak on behalf of God? Or, is every passage in which claims are made on behalf or about God to be accepted as absolute truth?
.
And, how does that jibe with the assaults Jesus made on the Pharisees?

.
I'm sure you would like that to be the truth so that you can settle the matter about your responsibility for your own choices, Old Bob. But, my comments remain logical--they are based on plain common sense. You have given yourself the righteousness to exist in two different worlds as though there can be a truth in your churchified circles and one in the greater environment--sort of a split in your persona. YOU are preaching to the choir and you are getting your positive input from the group to which you find your self.
.
In the end, you are the one who is chasing his tail. Chances are that you will eventually see that you are the one who bears ultimate responsibility for all your choices. It is YOUR ultimate decision to accept the Bible as your life's authority. No one else can force you to make that choice.
.
I know that I am the one who believes what I believe. No one does my thinking for me.

whazup Phil..... you bring up a good point as well...

So, is there even the slightest possibility that some of what is written in the Bible is there to show the reader any negative aspects of how some propose to speak on behalf of God?

yes... indeed...

Or, is every passage in which claims are made on behalf or about God to be accepted as absolute truth?

yes... of course.. otherwise, the first comment would be null and void.. agreed?

And, how does that jibe with the assaults Jesus made on the Pharisees?

remember, not all scripture is written to us, but all scripture is for us.. when referring to the Pharisees, lets remember that we are dealing with one nation, one set of people, one set of laws..... The following verse provides a glimpse into the rotten history of spiritual leaders... Also though, do remember, many Pharisees agreed with Jesus and repented...

Ezekiel 8:5-18
Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry.
He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.
And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall.
Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door.
And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here.
So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, pourtrayed upon the wall round about.
And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.
Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth.
He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.
Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD's house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.
Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.
And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD's house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.
Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.
