» pink101 - My Perspective

In response to Smart posted by Migisi:

.
Of a matter of course, opinions and perspectives are crafted into our minds during our "formative" years. Most honest people can agree on that.
.
There is no single perspective that is more accurate than another in a human sense of reality. Yeah, there is a sun up there in the sky and it is made up of certain elements, etc. We can agree that it is a specific even though science has not got it all figured out in perfect detail--it's up there and we all know it.
.
But, what I'm talking about is what goes on in our personal realm of reality. Each of us operates from our own perspective. Mine is different than yours--no two people ever share the exact same perspectives or opinions.
.
What makes our perspectives and opinions if it isn't our personal experiences all the way up to here and starting way back in the womb ~ maybe?
.
I came up from poverty out of the Great Depression. Even so, we always had a roof over our heads. We never took charity--in fact, we helped people out who not as well off as were we--to a fault.
.
But, when I arrived at high school, I had my first real experiences with what I could call "Rich Kids" from the upper crust. That's where I learned something about smart the way that I use it in reference to our current Chief of State. I could sit in physics or biology class and see how dumb some of the rich kids were; but, when it came to social groups at school, I could see how "smart" they were. Maybe there is a better word? Socially savvy?
.
It's obvious to me that George W. Bush is very smart in certain ways; but, I don't think he really gives a turd ball for the overall good of America.

YEP...I 'discovered' before posting. Have you noticed him mixing up era and error? At least, I assume he mixes 'em up. My problem is that the most obvious examples are only the tip of the iceberg. We never are really confident we know what is said, let alone if he knows the "banquet of consequences" arising from his actions. Picked up that term from a movie the other night and liked it. happy

It's probably true that some kids know kindergarten is a great place to start honing skills in establishing 'contacts'...a trait acquired from their parents. A "friend" is really only a contact who will make your intellectual investment in them worthwhile over the years...but they can be and often are discarded when they reach their use-by date. Smart...or clever and cruel...where kindness without a purpose may be a sign of weakness?

"I came up from poverty out of the Great Depression..."

...although in my case it was a more localised great depression my dad didn't want to deprive his family from. My biological parents didn't assist me develop my moral compass during my formative years. May be why I question 'motherhood statements' for their actual substance. happy happy

In my childhood in a boys' home, relative dumbness was a stage...almost a rite of passage...most went through. Processes were in place to ensure life there exampled a great equaliser between the have and have-nots. Much later on we learned how quickly the RICH can fall.

.
I heard it too, and just shook my head.
.
Now, imagine what an observant Aussie or other outsider could add to your list.
.
It's such an embarrassment to me that the leader of my country is such an ineloquent buffoon.
.
Perhaps his past (?) alcoholism caused permanent brain damage?
.
Quoted from:
Dry Drunk
http://www.americanpolitics.com/20020924...
....
"Alcoholics Anonymous has a name for someone who is a drunk in every way except for the actual imbibing of spirits. They call that person a "dry drunk."
....
"I am taking him at his word that he stopped what he termed "heavy drinking" in 1986, at age 40.
....
"Bush said he was a "heavy drinker." But let's not be coy here. Anyone who has ever imbibed heavily over a long period of time knows that "heavy drinker" is the rich man's (or the politician's) code for alcoholic.
.
"For the record, Bush claims to have stopped drinking for reasons that change each time he's asked about his substance-abusing past (which isn't often, thanks to a cowed press). Let's say he started experimenting with alcohol, as per the national norm, at 16 at prep school, and he began getting regularly wasted at Yale at 18. This would mean that Bush drank steadily "heavily" for at least 22 years. [Migisi: from 18 to age 40] We are, then, asked to believe that he went cold turkey after more than two decades of heavy drinking, a nearly impossible feat even for someone, as he claims, who was rescued by God.
....
"It is worth reflecting on George W. Bush's academic history. He graduated from two of the finest institutions of higher learning in this country: Yale and Harvard. He didn't make great grades, but he graduated, an accomplishment warranting some respect. Many rich, well-connected boys have flunked out. [NOTE from the editors: ...or tossed out, as was one Richard Scaife, from Yale, allegedly for his own love of the bottle.]
.
"The question is then begged, and seems to at least deserve some pause for pondering: how did he, at age 58, get so fumble-tongued, incapable of stringing more than two coherent sentences together, snippily irritable with anyone who dares disagree with him or even ask a question, poutily turning his back on the democratically elected president of one of our most important allies because of something one of his underlings said about him (Germany's Schroder, of course), listlessly in need of constant vacations and rest, dangerously obsessed with only one thing (Iraq), to the exclusion of all other things (including an economy that is slowly sucking the life from the nation as ! well as the retirement savings of anyone reading these words)?
.
"Furthermore, why is Bush so eager to engage in violence and so incapable of explaining why?"...
.
(my bold)

"... "Dry" refers to the abstinence from drinking, whereas "drunk" signifies a deeply pathological condition resulting from the use of alcohol in the past. Taken together these words suggest intoxication without alcohol...
.
[observable indicators]
.
"1. Grandiosity... an exaggeration of one's own importance...
.
"2. Judgmentalism is mutually related to grandiosity... the alcoholic is prone to make value judgments - strikingly inappropriate evaluations - usually in terms of "goodness" or "badness".
.
"3. Intolerance leaves no room for delaying the gratification of personal desires...
.
"4. Impulsivity is the result of intolerance or the lack of ability to delay gratification of personal desires. Impulsivity describes behavior which is heedless of the ultimate consequence for self or others.
.
"5. Indecisiveness is related to impulsitivity in the sense that while the latter takes no realistic account of the consequences of the actions, the former precludes effective action altogether..."

Quoting from:
Alcohol and violence
http://www.sirc.org/publik/alcohol_and_v...
.
Biochemical and psychological factors
"Primary cognitive impairment ('alcohol myopia')...an increased risk of misunderstandings and misinterpretations, which can in some contexts lead to aggressive responses...
.
"Secondary cognitive impairment... people who have consumed substantial amounts of alcohol have greater difficulty in thinking rationally and speaking clearly...
.
Frustration-aggression theory
"...The alcohol-induced cognitive impairments identified above - narrowing of the perceptual field and reduced powers of reasoning - may increase the likelihood of a frustrated person focusing on one small aspect of the situation, exaggerating its importance, and responding in an irrational, aggressive manner..." Think Iraq. Maybe Bush ~hasn't~ stopped drinking?

Going to Harvard Business School taught him:

"management consists of decision-making under conditions of uncertainty." so was his idea to first create the uncertainty to facilitate his decisions?

"embrace a finite number of strategic goals" meaning the best ones may have not made it to the necessarily short list.

"There is no 'one right way' to manage." meaning HIS way maybe, possibly, should be...right.
