Geez, Bri. I was just having some fun. You did say you were studying for your Masters in Theology, dintcha? Lighten up.
.
Jesus tells the disciples to baptize "in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost."
.
Sorry, but concensus is that this was an interpolation - a later addition to scripture. Note that the apostles instruct to baptize in the name of Jesus (or the Lord). Did they merely forget to mention the Father and Holy Ghost? In whose name did John the Baptist baptize Jesus?

He's such a sensitive kid. Guess I'll have to use more than one smiley face so he'll notice when I'm funnin with him.

I think he's got his nose to the grind stone instead of his sword. Studying for a Master's is some tough work.

"..."in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost."
I'll confess right up front that the Trinity confuses me and I shoulda copied down an understood explanation I read here year+ back. Something about the manifestations of the one God. But I liken it to a kinda oath of allegiance where every aspect is accounted for. Including the very essence of it all lest there be any misunderstanding. Though "In the name of...the son" rather than "in the name of Jesus..." is lost a bit on me.
But it's for a baptismal ceremony or Catholic ceremonies, only? I have frequently heard the exhortation or rebuke: "In the name of Jesus..." without mentioning the Father and the Lord's prayer naturally omits the Son?
So, what makes an effective baptism seems the point. Full immersion, part dunk, all the above exhortation.

Given the earlier exchanges, I thought I'd say the above was a serious post. I'd forgotten you were Baptist, so one aspect in my post is clearer. My friendly question now is what is your Masters thesis on? If these issues are as flogged to death as you indicate, there must have been one * of a challenge for you to select it.
And are any here cited at all?
