» Migisi - Requiem for my faith

.
I remember like it was yesterday.
.
My husband called from his cell while driving to work. "Honey, turn on the TV. A plane just hit one of the Twin Towers in New York". I turned on CNN. Oh my god! And then... I saw the second plane hit. OH MY GOD!!! And I saw the first tower fall, and jumped to my feet to scream. Then the second. Outraged, I SCREAMED at God from the depths of my soul, "HOW COULD YOU LET THIS HAPPEN!!?? All those people! HOW COULD YOU? You B&^%@*&!!" And then the Pentagon and Flight 93. I fell to the floor and sobbed. I cry even now.
.
That day changed me forever.

In response to Requiem for my faith posted by Migisi:

I remember it well myself. I was shocked and speechless. Later, I felt this combination of deep sorrow and anger. But my anger wasn't directed against God. Rather, it was against those who perpetrated the attacks.

» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - For those who blame God

I have no expectation or goal of persuading Migisi, who has blamed God for 9/11. She's pretty set in her beliefs. But for anyone ELSE who might blame God for 9/11 and the other tragedies we've seen (war, hurricanes, earthquakes, cancer, AIDS, take your pick), here's a very interesting and thoughtful article by an oncologist and professor on the subject of God and suffering.

It's long but worth your time.

(Isaiah 45:7, KJV) - "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil [rah, chaos, woe, calamity]: I the LORD do all these things."

(Amos 3:6 NIV) - "When a trumpet sounds in a city, do not the people tremble? When disaster comes to a city, has not the LORD caused it?"

In response to For those who blame God posted by Migisi:

This is called proof-texting. Biblical passages should not be lifted out of context and then applied universally and without any qualification.

Migisi, it's obvious that you have placed all tragedy at God's doorstep, and you are emotionally invested in that belief. There's no persuading you on the point, so I think it's best that we just agree to disagree.

If there are others who feel as you do, I invite them to come forward and we can hash this all out some more. But if it's just you and me, I don't know what more can be said on the subject.

I guess what upsets me most is that we cannot discuss the root causes of the Islamic anger against America.
