Maybe so, I have shared some very strong opinions in an age and place that strong opinions are rarely shared with those who oppose the message of the bible. If you ask me, your faith seems to be founded on what you were taught as a child. You're stuck. If you try to get unstuck, you will be denying your upbringing and that is unthinkable for you. That's right. I am still stuck on Jesus after all these years. I have no plans to abandon Him. the oldtimer. -- posted by Brother_Jones » Migisi - Cancer and Heart Disease In response to Cancer and Heart Disease posted by Brother_Jones:A starting place to figure that folks like you submit to Science and Research when the going gets a little rough in the health area. Not a prayer? Or maybe prayer after everything else goes haywire? No need for the One? (i guess i should ask migisi). . You also submit to science and research when health issues arise. You mentioned that you'd seen a doctor recently. Can medical science delay the inevitable? Sometimes. Our time can be extended through procedures and treatments. Can science stop the inevitable? No. . Likewise, can prayer delay the inevitable? Sometimes. Prayer and/or meditation originates in the mind. Studies have shown that the mind does have an impact on physical illness and wellness. But can prayer and/or meditation stop the inevitable? No. . We are mortal, having a beginning - and an end. Life is just a short interval between the two. Nobody gets out alive. -- posted by Migisi » pink101 - The Bound Brother Jones In response to Your Faith posted by Brother_Jones:. . I am still stuck on Jesus after all these years. I have no plans to abandon Him. . That's what you want everyone to believe and you've got yourself about 90% convinced of it. But, something else is really at work and, deep down in your deepest thoughts you know it. It's not Jesus who is holding you down. His message is that you were set free "all those years ago" from your bondage. You have come to the place where you love the comfort of your bondage. . It's not Jesus that you're stuck on. It's membership in a group; being faithful to mother; an interpretation of what it means to be stuck on Jesus; all these things and more that have you in their chains of bondage. It's popular among the "saved" that they claim the things you spout off with. It's a world dominated by cliche. "Can I get an amen?" The way you try to put down those who are in opposition to your stand is so typical of the self righteous who sit frumpishly in their pews during Sunday services. I've seen them over and over. I know the type well. Think of all those who would be forced to turn over in their grave if you were ever to go back on what they bound you up in. You cannot be free. You are in bondage to the dead and gone. Your bondage--itself--is a terrible thing to face up to. . http://www.violetbooks.com/REVIEWS/rbada... . or . http://home.earthlink.net/~pricetesc/bou... . -- posted by pink101 » pink101 - exquisite balance In response to exquisite balance posted by redback:. To me, 'humanism' is a stream of thought...and many streams, eddies, puddles...and muddied waters...may make up one's life. Isn't there such an animal as 'Christian humanism' which might relate to the 'love thy neighbour' edict or even rendering unto Caesar? . But, there is a clearing up ahead. . -- posted by pink101 » redback - Rebuke or advertisement In response to exquisite balance posted by pink101:
Tis hard to compose a very concise view but...above IS a good addition. Today I'm thinking maybe both science and faith can fall short. Maybe I'm tending towards being a pragmatic, libertarial, humanist dabbling in spirituality for my own mental health's sake. Which is MOST likely to work? The science of (marketing) saturation-advertising or the faith in faith? Apparently Australia is spiralling downhill towards...the USA. We may be free but we aint good...to paraphrase. We'll be partially rescued when the Pope visits mid-2008. Buoyed by an expected rise in faith that visit will generate, Anglicans plan to ride on the back of its success and...place a Bible in EVERY Australian household in 2009. -- posted by redback » Migisi - Rebuke or advertisement In response to Rebuke or advertisement posted by redback:

Yep...it'll be a free Bible. I asked him to tell the convenor to put my name on the list where unsolicited mail is unwelcome. I'll tell him about the Pope's "blessings" on the lesser churches. But Jim believes he's a Catholic Anglican. -- posted by redback » pink101 - Phil's Bible Study Group In response to Rebuke or advertisement posted by redback:. Hmmmm. . . To his Bible study group? . Interesting. . What kind of feedback do you expect you will get? Don't you think they will merely ignore it? . -- posted by pink101 » redback - Phil's Bible Study Group In response to Phil's Bible Study Group posted by pink101:
Well, he's sometimes stuck between my post-suite101 input and his frustration at not getting progress within his own group...so who knows. He's in his early 70s, a Mason, and sings for his church without really accepting all their dogma. He uses his professional artistic skills to Bible read as well so the sign-off from the reading is his own. He did once tell them that God changes his mind. He does make broad-based claims about many things that I check out. -- posted by redback » pink101 - Stroke of Genius In response to Phil's Bible Study Group posted by redback:.
