» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Grading Christian Pastors

To Everyone:

There's been a lot of discussion recently about Christian pastors, churches, etc. that use fear, guilt, shame, and other negative emotions or concepts to spread their message.

But, clearly, this does not describe all Christians - including most of the conservative, evangelical, Bible-believing Christian churches.

I think it's possible for evangelical, conservative Christians to "preach the Word" (as Paul exhorts Timothy) and yet do so using love, compassion, civility, and reason.

Here are some Christian pastors/teachers. I'd like for you to grade them -- A (loving, caring, compassionate, positive) down to F (hateful, thoroughly negative, responsible for spreading great pain).

Joel Osteen
Rick Warren
Charles Stanley
John MacArthur
Joyce Meyer
Billy Graham
Ravi Zacharias

..and anyone else you want to bring out.

If you give anyone a D or F, PLEASE explain your grade. Don't just slam them.

When I was a Christian, I listened to, and financially supported, Stanley and Meyer. I liked Meyer's perspective, but mostly her humor. I liked Stanley because he seemed very kind.
I've also heard these occasionally:
.
Jim and Tammy Bakker
Jimmy Swaggart
Pat Robertson
James Dobson
.
Creflo Dollar
Rod Parsley
Robert Schuller
James Kennedy
Fred Price
Bob Tilton
Kenneth Copeland
.
I really don't want to grade them though. I haven't heard them in years, and their message and delivery might've changed. But the first four I listed were NOT any of my favorites. Far from it.
